Coweta-Fayette Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) recently honored Northgate High School with a 2006-2007 Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award in recognition of exemplary sportsmanship exhibited by the student body, staff and school community at competitive events during the 2006-07 school term. “It is our pleasure to present the Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award to Northgate High School,” said Michael Whiteside, president & CEO at Coweta-Fayette EMC. “While we’re often bombarded with news of bad conduct on the playing field or in the stands, not only at youth events but in the professional sports arena as well, it is refreshing to recognize a local high school that plays with integrity. Good sportsmanship and good character are synonymous.Northgate High School’s students and spectators alike have exhibited good character, both on the field and in the stands.” Introduced in 2006, the sportsmanship awards program is a partnership between Georgia’s EMCs and the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) to promote sportsmanship by honoring student athletes along with all who participate in and attend competitive events, making the award not only a school but a community honor. “Our employees, many of whom have family members attending Northgate High School and its events join us in congratulating Northgate High School on receiving this award,” said Whiteside. “It speaks well of the entire community.” “Our partnership with GHSA is an extension of our support for schools, education and youth,” continued Whiteside. “Coweta-Fayette EMC and GHSA believe that encouraging and rewarding good sportsmanship serves as a reminder to students and spectators to exhibit good conduct and character. Our own cooperative principles fall in line with the characteristics of good sportsmanship. Cooperation and commitment to community are principles just as important on the high school playing field as they are to our employees here at the EMC.” Coweta-Fayette EMC is a consumer owned cooperative providing electricity and related services to over 70,000 members in parts of eight counties. login to post comments |
