Sammie Lynn Allen Norman, Peachtree City, died Dec. 24, 2009. She had been employed by the Fayette County Board of Education for 21 years, primarily serving as a teacher at Braelinn Elementary School in Peachtree City.

Virginia Gore

Virginia Gore, 85, Fayetteville, died Dec. 26, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe A. Gore. She was a longtime member of McDonough Road Baptist Church, and loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

Michael Joshua Cook

Michael Joshua Cook, 37, Fayetteville, died Dec. 11, 2009. He was preceded in death by his father Bobby Cook. He was a 9-year member of I.B.E.W. Local 613, where he was a CE-6. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church and liked to fish, build model cars, and camp. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Marie Elizabeth Hutlas

Marie Elizabeth Hutlas, 56, Peachtree City, died Dec. 14, 2009. She lived to make other people happy by always putting others first. She was a school volunteer and member of the PTO, a soccer mom and a member of the Peachtree City Youth Soccer Association. She took time to work with the Girl Scouts and for the past five years she worked for the Canongate Golf Clubs. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Pastor Miriam Beecher officiating.

Delmer Edward Runnals Sr.

Delmer Edward Runnals Sr., 89, Peachtree City, died Dec. 14, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine L. Runnals. He was a 28 year veteran who proudly served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church where he served as a member of the Knights of Columbus. A funeral mass was at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Michael Kingery officiating. Interment was at St. Mary’s of Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers, Mass.

Barbara Ann Humphrey Tyndall

Barbara Ann Humphrey Tyndall, 74, Fayetteville, died Dec. 17, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Thomas F. Tyndall. She was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Jerry Cross officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

John A. Watson

John A. Watson, 90, Peachtree City, died Dec. 15, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Widney Watson, who died Sept. 19, 2001. Memorial services were at the Peachtree City United Methodist Church.

Roger Keith Hargens, 60, Fayetteville, died Dec. 14, 2009. He was preceded in death by his father, Eldred G. Hargens. Memorial services were at Tara Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Little officiating.

Joseph Joaquin Vincent

Joseph Joaquin “Joe” Vincent, 67, Fayetteville, died Dec. 14, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Vaughn and Ethel Patton Vincent. Graveside services were held at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Jane Hopkins

Jane Hopkins, 72, Griffin, died Dec. 17, 2009. She was a wonderful homemaker and a talented musician who played in the “Flint River” bluegrass band. Her hobbies were cooking, fishing, and plants. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with interment at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens, Fairburn.

Victor Sanchez

Victor Sanchez, 73, Fayetteville, died Dec. 16, 2009. He had served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. He began his career with Pan Am in the 1960’s and retired from Delta Airlines in 2001. Services were at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, Jonesboro with the Rev. Father John Koziol officiating. Interment was at The Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers.

Henry Grady Thrailkill Jr.

Henry Grady Thrailkill Jr., 78, Brooks, formerly of Hapeville, died Dec. 18, 2009. He was a graduate of Hapeville High School and loved to garden and fish. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean conflict. He was the owner/operator of Kwik Pick Market in Hapeville which he began in 1959. He remained in the grocery business until his retirement in 1999.

Eloise Stephens Crenshaw

Eloise Stephens Crenshaw, formerly of East Point, Palmetto, and Christian City, died Dec. 18, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Crenshaw Sr., a daughter Karen Eloise Knowles, three brothers; and one sister. In World War II she served her country by riveting ships and spent her life serving others. She was a devout Christian and longtime member of East Point Christian Church, where she was Sunday School teacher. She was a great cook and opened her home to nine foster children. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Pastor Ron Little officiating. Interment was at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Forest Park.

Julie Renée McGowan

Julie Renée McGowan, 48, Fayetteville, died Dec. 1, 2009 after a hard fought battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, Bernie Williams. She was originally from Jacksonville, Fla., where she was graduated from Victory Christian Academy High School in 1979. She also attended Florida Junior College. Services were at New Hope Baptist Church, South Campus, with the Rev. Hugh Kirby officiating.

Frances M. Balmes

Frances M. Balmes, 91, Fayetteville, died Dec. 8, 2009. He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin James Balmes, brothers, John Balmes, Fred Balmes, and Richard Balmes, and a sister, Agnes Walenter. He was a veteran of World War II. A funeral mass was held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Gurnee, Ill. Interment was at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, Ill. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary O. Julian Randolph Mills Jr.

Julian Randolph Mills Jr., died Dec. 8, 2009. He was an aircrew life support specialist in the United States Air Force and while in service he was awarded an AF Training Ribbon and an AF Overseas Short Tour Ribbon. He was a graduate of Norfolk State University, with a master’s in business from Emory University. He was a certified public accountant and named Businessman of the Year in 2009. He was an accomplished musician and chef. He received awards for his work with the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer's Association. Memorial services were at First Baptist Church, Peachtree City.

David E. Nelms

David E. Nelms, 77, Fayetteville, died Dec. 9, 2009. Services were at Flat Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Priester officiating. Interment was at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. Robert Austin Watson

Robert Austin "Bob" Watson, 85, Riverdale, died Dec. 10, 2009. He was the oldest of nine children. He was a World War II survivor and Purple Heart recipient. He held numerous position at St. Matthew United Methodist Church and North Fayette United Methodist Church for over five decades. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Doug Burrell officiating. Interment was at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta.

Dr. Weldon L. Odom

Dr. Weldon L. Odom, 75, Fayetteville, died Dec. 11, 2009 after a three-year long battle with cancer. He was a native of Hazlehurst, Ga. and was born Sept. 11, 1934. He was preceded in death by his mother, Johnnie Lou Odom. He was a graduate of Brown High School, Atlanta, and the Logan Basic College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Mo. He had served as president of the American Chiropractic Association from 1985 to 1987. He was in the chiropractic field for 42 years. He had served in the United States Navy and was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Fla., where he met his wife.

Eugene Oscar Ottman

Eugene "Gene" Oscar Ottman, 83, Brooks, died Dec. 11, 2009. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Don Barron and the Rev. Mark Anthony officiating. Interment was at Brooks Memorial Gardens. Survivors include his wife, June Ottman, Brooks; children, Jim and Nancy Ottman, Durango, Colo., Patty and Terry Davids, Dallas, Ga., Barby and Tim Trammell, , and Janet and Mike Ashley, all of Brooks; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers; and two sisters. Barbara Trapp Peters

Barbara Trapp Peters, Newnan, died Nov. 20, 2009. She was born April 14, 1932 in Fulton County, one of two children. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Burnett and Beulah Brand Trapp, her husband, K. M. "Bud" Peters, in May, 2008, and a sister, Sandra Trapp Snipes. Her professional life was spent as a bookkeeper in a number of companies dealing in concrete products. She was a member of Lovejoy United Methodist Church. Graveside services were at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan, with the Rev. Dr. Bob Martin officiating. Survivors include a daughter, Denise P. Bray; a nephew, Stephen and Ana Snipes, and their children, Monica, and Claudia; and a niece, Nancy and Daryl Zarbnisky, and their children, Kyla and Braden. Charles W. McInvale

Charles W. McInvale, 66, Newnan, died Nov. 21, 2009. He was a member of SouthCrest Church, and the Fayette Shrine Club. He had served in the United States Army. Services were at SouthCrest Church with Pastor Chip Gordon officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include his wife, Cathy McInvale; a daughter, Carmen and Jeff Alexander, Sharpsburg; a son, Jay and Tara McInvale, Newnan; grandchildren, Taylor Moore, Austin Alexander, Landon McInvale, Madyson Alexander, and Campbell McInvale; and sisters, Dot and Norm Ahlheim, and Shirley and Joe Price. Betty Haltiwanger

Betty Haltiwanger "Be" Murphy, 88, Fayetteville, died Nov. 22, 2009 after a long illness. She was born May 13, 1921 in Zamboanga Mindanao, Philippines. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilber and Pilar Haltiwanger, a brother, Robert W. Haltiwanger, a sister, Anita D. Wall, and her husband, Wesley Culpepper Murphy. When her father retired from the United States Army they relocated to Ocala, Fla., where she enjoyed cheerleading and kept her award winning swimming at Silver Springs. When her father was recalled to the Army, they moved to East Point in 1941 where she met her husband and moved to his hometown of Fayetteville. She had worked at Clayton General Hospital and retired as a dental receptionist and a bookkeeper.

Azell Turner

Azell "Zelly" Turner, Newnan, died Nov. 27, 2009. He was born May 17, 1949 in Moreland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie C. and Lucille Turner, his wife, Roxie Turner, a son, Demarcus Turner, a brother, and four sisters. He attended the Coweta County school system and was a lifelong construction worker. He was very passionate about working. Services were at the Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Julian Warner officiating. Interment was at Eastview Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Antonio "Tony" and Laura Johnson; a daughter, Kizzie and Telly Gould; a brother, Jimmy Lee Turner; a sister, Tammy Renée Turner; and five grandchildren. John Austin Vincent

John Austin Vincent, retired E-9 Master Chief Petty Officer, parachute rigger, United States Navy, 85, Mountain View, Calif., died Nov. 26, 2009. He was born and raised on a farm near Riverdale, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Ada Vincent, brothers. Hugh T. Vincent and R. Merrill Vincent, and a sister, Julie V. Campbell. He was proud of his 30-year career serving his country and after retirement from the Navy, he worked in real estate until the age of 80. He enjoyed spending time in his flower garden and dancing to big band music.

Alice Ann House

Alice Ann House, 69, Jonesboro, died Dec. 1, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob L. House, four brothers, and two sisters. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Tony St. Cyr officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Jesse Kenneth "Kenny" Williams

Jesse Kenneth Williams, 56, Fayetteville, died Nov. 29, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Williams and Lucille Norred. He had a quick wit and sense of humor. He loved to travel, spend time at the beach, and was an avid hunter fisherman and football enthusiast. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Dr. Wallace McAbee officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City.

James Lewis Watkins Jr.

James Lewis Watkins Jr., 59, Fayetteville, died Nov. 30, 2009. He was born Aug. 31, 1950 in Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Rose Watkins. He grew up in Avondale Estates and attended Reinhardt College and from 1970 to 1976 he served in the United States Army Reserves. After serving on active duty he worked in the trucking industry with his family and later in trucking firms he began. Illness forced him to retire in August, 2007. While in that industry he served on the Board of Directors of The Georgia Motor Trucking Association and the Board of Governors of The Southern Motor Carriers Rate Conference. He was a member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church and the Family Sunday School Class.

Ned C. Boutwell

Ned C. Boutwell, 87, Fayetteville, died Dec. 1, 2009. He drove for Trailways for 22 years and was awarded the title, "Million Mile Safe Driver." Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Hugh Pope officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sara C. Boutwell, Fayetteville; a son, Dale and Vickie Boutwell, Statham, Ga.; a daughter, Valerie and Matthew Smarr, Dunwoody; grandchildren, Christina Smarr and William Smarr, both of Dunwoody; a sister, Eugenia "Bea" Freeman, Cantonment, Fla.; and faithful cat, "Moka". Robert H. Suttles

Robert H. "Bobby" Suttles, Fayetteville, died Dec. 3, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rowland Cortez and Edna Cowart Suttles. He had been practicing law in Fayette and Clayton counties for 25 years. He was graduated from John Marshall Law School and was a member of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Georgia Bar Association and the Fayette County Bar Association.
