She was preceded in death by her husband, William Russell Hogue, and sisters, Bert Powell and Mae McDonald. Services will be today, Wed. Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Jon Schroeder officiating. Interment will be at College Park Cemetery. She was a longtime employee of Macy's Department Store, retiring after 25 years of service. Martha Jean DurrahMartha Jean Durrah, formerly of Newnan, died Nov. 9, 2009. She was born Dec. 24, 1931and was the fifth of nine children. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lillie B. Hill, brothers, J. W., James, Milton, Roosevelt, and Edward, a son-in-law, Jessie Williams, her husband, Clifford Durrah Sr., and a daughter, Shelia. She was an active member of Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. Joseph Edward RichardJoseph Edward Richard, 76, Senoia, died Nov. 10, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Edward and Beatrice Sullivan Richard Sr., and a sister, Patricia Braganca, Pawtucket, R. I. In 1953 he went to the Airborne Training at Fort Benning, and was then stationed at Fort Bragg, N. C. with the 82nd Airborne. His service to the Panther of the 3/505 Parachute Infantry Regiment and the 3rd Brigade earned him a place as a member of the "All American Chapter" of the retired 82nd Airborne Paratroopers. He worked for 22 years as an HVAC serviceman and after completing his college degree in 1976, began work in Facilities Management, first in the hospital field and the last 12 years of his career at Bryant University in Rhode Island. Lois Alene DavisLois Alene Davis, Newnan, died Nov. 12, 2009. She was born Aug. 16, 1931 in Boston, Mass, the 5th child. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Littleton. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on May 15, 1954. She was retired from teaching school after 33 years from the Boston Public School System. She had married Leroy Davis in 1954. She was born April 9, 1936 in Fulton County, daughter of the late Hiram and Effie Huska Hunter. Graveside services were at Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Joel Whitten officiating. Survivors include sons, Mike and Marcia Duffey, Locust Grove, and Donald and Heather Duffey, Acworth; daughters, Ann and Harold Wilmot, Jackson, Mary and Steve Hoffman, Newnan, and Brenda and Barry Phillips, Newnan; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was a graduate of Gloucester High School, and served 4 years in the United States Navy, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a retired CRNA who practiced 32 years at Elmer Community Hospital. He was most recently a member of the Peachtree Wind Ensemble. Services will be this Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Peachtree Christian Fellowship, 640 Ebenezer Church Rd. Pastor David Liebe will officiate. Lois Baker ManningLois Baker Manning, 93, Fayetteville, died Nov. 23, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lansing Ford Manning. Graveside services were at Chattanooga Memorial Park with the Rev. Burt Jones officiating. Survivors include a son, Lewis "Joe" Manning, Manassas, Va.; daughters, Lansie Manning, Fayetteville, and Mary Crews, St. Mary's, Ga.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby and William Elay, Red Bank, Tenn. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge. Lewis A. Welch Jr.Lewis A. Welch Jr., 89, Fayetteville, died Nov. 24, 2009. He was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., to the late L. A. and Luna Dunagan Welch. His family moved to Atlanta shortly after and he has lived in the Metro Atlanta area since. He was a First Sergeant in the United States Army Air Detachment, Army Ordinance 97th Bomb Group for three years and nine months in World War II. After service he joined his father in the grocery business on Sylvan Road and obtained an LLB degree from John Marshall Law School in 1947. He had owned car dealerships beginning in 1965 and most recently Lewis Welch Oldsmobile at Southlake Mall in Morrow. He won many awards while contributing to the local community: Time Magazine Quality Dealer, 1986, MIC Insurance "Outstanding Agency" in 1982, and was Atlanta Metro Auto Dealers Assn. president in 1976. He enjoyed motorcycles, boating, bowling, swimming and vacationing with his family. He was member of New Hope Baptist Church and served as a member of its finance committee, as well as being one of the three trustees. Michael B. DraneMichael B. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert A. Starr. She was employed at Lockheed during world War Il, building B52 bombers. She had also worked at Macy's in Atlanta. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was a member of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship-Discipleship Sunday School Class. Elizabeth S. CreelElizabeth S. Creel, 86, Fayetteville, died Nov. 20. 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William H. Creel, two brothers, and two sisters. She retired as a department manager at Rich's Department store. She was a member of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship-Discipleship Sunday School Class. Donajean SharpDonajean Sharp, 80, Fayetteville, formerly of Florence S.C., died Nov. 22, 2009. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Wilcox Sharp Jr. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and dedicated her artistic talents to her family. She was a long time member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Services are today, Wed., Nov. 25, at 11 a.m. at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Justin Kollmeyer officiating. S Patricia Faye Moore CasonPatricia Faye Moore Cason died Nov. 22, 2009. She was born June 27, 1932 and died in Pensacola, Fla., after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Edward B. Cason Jr. Private graveside services will be Friday, Nov. 27, 2009. Survivors include children, Russell and Dewye Cason, Peachtree City, Randall Cason, Jonesboro, and Cathy Cason, Pensacola, Fla.; a brother, Robert Moore, Savannah; and a sister, JoAnn DeSha, Chattanooga, Tenn. Betty Haltiwanger MurphyBetty Haltiwanger "Be" Murphy, 88, Fayetteville, died Nov. 22, 2009 after a long illness. She was born May 13, 1921 in Zamboanga Mindanao, Philippines. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilber and Pilar Haltiwanger, a brother, Robert W. Haltiwanger, a sister, Anita D. Wall, and her husband, Wesley Culpepper Murphy. When her father retired from the United States Army they relocated to Ocala, Fla., where she enjoyed cheerleading and kept her award winning swimming at Silver Springs. When her father was recalled to the Army, they moved to East Point in 1941 where she met her husband and moved to his hometown of Fayetteville. Helen Marion Hogan HillHelen Marion Hogan Hill, 104, Tampa, died Nov. 9, 2009. She was born Nov. 5, 1905 in Fayette County. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Gayden and Nancy Matilda Horton Wilkins, and husbands, Alton P. Hogan, and George H. Hill. She learned to count by helping her mother pay workers for picking cotton on their farm. At 14 she was sent to Georgia State Normal School, Athens, a boarding school that soon became part of the University of Georgia. After World War II, she obtained a teacher's degree from Oglethorpe University, Atlanta. Elizabeth Salisbury RobertsonElizabeth "Betty" Salisbury Robertson, 86, Fayetteville, died Nov. 11, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Leonard Robertson. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Chuck Chambers officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Park Cemetery, Miami, Fla. James Early CardenJames Early "Bub" Carden, 83, Woolsey, died Nov. 12, 2009. He was born Dec. 3, 1925 to George Otis and Aubra Gill Carden. He was preceded in death by brothers, Dan Carden, Don Carden, and Dave Carden, and a sister, Louise Fredrickson. He was one of 10 children and was not schooled past third grade in order to help on the family farm. When it came to ailing cars, cows, trucks or tractors, he had an uncanny knack for knowing just what to do to get them going again. He was a mechanic and cattleman by trade, a fun-loving family man, and beloved pillar of his home community of Woolsey.
