Coweta County’s Central Educational Center (CEC) is going to be well-represented at the state level, following appointments of two of its leaders to Georgia boards and commissions.

Wyndham cook arrested for PTC armed robbery

An Atlanta man who works in Peachtree City has been arrested for the May 1 robbery of the Shell gas station on Ga. Highway 74 and Wisdom Road in Peachtree City, police said.

The suspect has been identified as Clinton Lamar English, 23, of Carson Pass SW, Atlanta, police said. English is a cook at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center, police said.

A north Fayette man accused of attempting to wrestle a deputy’s gun from its holster while he was being handcuffed Aug. 25 has been acquitted by the jury in the case.

Wayne Marshall Williams, 52, was found not guilty Tuesday of the only charge lodged against him: attempted removal of a peace officer's weapon. This was his second trial on the same charge as a jury in March couldn't come to a unanimous decision, resulting in a mistrial.

Williams testified that he did nothing wrong and complied with the orders of two deputies ... a different story from that given by the deputies earlier in the trial during their testimony. Dep. James Pitts testified that he and his supervisor went to Williams’s home on a report from a 911 call that he had tried to run over his wife.

If appearances hold true it looks as if the vote to create the City of South Fulton will be postponed.

Fulton County Registration Chief John Sullivan said Wednesday the June 19 vote will likely be delayed in the absence of a signature by Gov. Sonny Perdue on House Bill 725 and a pre-clearance by U.S. Dept. of Justice.

No victims found, but shell casings recovered

Fayetteville Police are investigating a shooting that occurred at Weatherly Walk Apartments early Tuesday night.

No one was apparently injured, but when police arrived on the scene they could not find any of the reported four young black males who took part in the incident, police said. The incident occurred near the 1600 and 1700 buildings at the apartment complex, police said.

PTC police make Internet porn arrest

A McDonough man was arrested yesterday for trying to arrange a sexual act with an undercover Peachtree City police officer who he thought was a 14-year-old.

Christopher Todd Walker, 33, of McDonough was charged with one count of violating the computer pornography and child exploitation act. Police said Walker engaged in "conversations of an extremely illicit sexual nature" during the investigation.

Fayette shoots down gun ban in parks

Fayette County’s plan to outlaw firearms in the county’s recreation areas is losing steam quickly.

Last week, the county pulled it from the Thursday night agenda. Commission Chairman Jack Smith said it was a “staff error” and should have instead appeared on a Wednesday workshop agenda. The issue came to the board after a recommendation from the Recreation Committee.
