Police have now identified two Senoia men charged with robbing the United Community Bank on Ga. Highway 74 north after 2 p.m. Friday.

Parrott says excess carbon in water poses no hazard

Fayette County Water System has released a public notice indicating that the system was out of compliance for Total Organic Carbon (TOC) during the last quarter of 2008 and the first quarter of 2009. System Director Tony Parrott said the compliance status poses no health hazard, adding that since the numbers are compiled on a quarterly basis for a one-year period the system is expected to return to compliance level status by the end of the year. Figures for April have returned to acceptable levels, Parrott said.

Logsdon to run for state insurance office

Peachtree City Mayor Harold Logsdon announced Saturday that he will be running for State Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner.

The announcement came in front of the Fayette County Republican Party, but Logsdon acknowledged it was not a well-kept secret.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Narcotics Team (TNT) concluded an investigation April 30 that resulted in a traffic stop on Ga. Highway 74 in Tyrone, according to TNT Lt. Jody Thomas. TNT Agents seized 958 pounds of Marijuana and arrested three persons, Thomas said.

Judge dismisses suit against Tyrone

The Town of Tyrone seemed to come out on top with the recent ruling in U.S. District Court over a 2007 complaint filed by Dick Shelley over he said were unfair and illegal zoning practices. But Shelley claimed victory, saying Judge Jack T. Camp’s ruling centered on only 1 of the 12 counts. Shelley said the remaining 11 counts are eligible to be heard in state court where the claim originated.

Peachtree City Police have confirmed the arrest of two suspects in an armed robbery at United Community Bank at Ga. Highway 74 near Wisdom Road at approximately 2:15 p.m. Friday.

PTC man making bid for Secretary of State

A Peachtree City man has announced he will seek election as Georgia’s next Secretary of State.

Gary Horlacher filed paperwork Tuesday to run for the Democratic nomination in the race. Horlacher, an attorney, has practiced law for the past nine years, also serving as a legislative lobbyist on issues including technology, healthcare, transportation, land use, labor and employment.

Senoia charter school plans moving forward

Plans are moving forward for the establishment of a charter school in Senoia. Charter Schools USA representatives held their second meeting with the parents of potential students last week at the Freeman Sasser Building, laying out their plans and updating the more than 40 in attendance. A petition to establish the school will be sent to Coweta County School Board in May.

Newnan Youth City Council applicants sought

It is designed to provide experience on local governance from the perspective of people in their teens. The City of Newnan Youth Activities Commission has formalized plans and is accepting applications for the new Youth City Council. The council will consist of students from each high school and of home-schooled students.

Coweta burn ban begins May 1

May 1 marks the official start of Smog Season in Georgia. For 54 counties throughout the state, that means the annual ban on open burning will be in effect once again. In the interest of public health, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) will be enforcing the ban through September 30, during the hot summer months when ground level ozone and particle pollution are more likely to reach unhealthy levels.
