Peachtree City residents can take unwanted appliances, furniture and other junk to the city’s recycling center at Rockaway Road off Ga. Highway 74 south this Saturday and Sunday.

The center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days to accept the trash as part of the city’s annual “Spring Clean-Up” initiative.

All appliances must have freon removed, officials said. No tires or batteries will be accepted.

The event is presented by Keep America Beautiful, Keep Georgia Beautiful and Peachtree City.

OK, I was there several times (legally) trying to drop off some yard waste during this so called "cleanup" weekend.

Some observations:

1)Way too much traffic in and out of the recycling center and of course the Police didn't bother showing up to direct traffic at the dangerous intersection of Rockaway Rd and Hwy 74 during the event.

2)A large percentage of the vehicles that showed up to drop items off had license plates that did NOT say "fayette" on them and the items they were dropping off were not on the "approved" list of drop off items.

3)There were several "employees" present at the entrance to the recycling center whose friggin' job was to oversee what was going on..........looked to me like all most of them were doing was sitting around smoking cigarettes, talking trash and picking their noses...GOOD JOB PPL!!!! My teenager's are more responsible than you!
