Crash_ambulance vs car at Capt. D's

No one was seriously injured when a Clayton County ambulance collided with a car in front of Captain D's in downtown Fayetteville just before noon today.

According to witnesses the ambulance was traveling south on Ga. Highway 85 when a white passenger car pulled into its path while attempting to turn onto the highway heading north.

The patient in the ambulance was transferred to a Fayette County ambulance to be taken to the hospital.

The crash snarled lunchtime traffic in Fayetteville, completely blocking northbound traffic on Hwy. 85 for a short time. Southbound traffic also was limited to one lane as medical crews attended to the injured.

im thankful to god no one was seriously injured (as i hear). accidents do happen. thats why they call them accidents. this intersection at caption d's is a magnet for accidents. regardless of whos fault it is. i work across the street and we see accidents nearly every day. as a driver, i am in this exact turning lane exactly where this and many other accidents happen several several times a day. i am more cautious everytime im in it. especially at lunchtime is really congested. i have lost count how many ive seen this year alone. ive been across the street for several years and im wondering how much longer and how many more accidents it will take for the county or state to put a no left turn sign (and hopefully inforce it) and/or put a red light. everytime i hear squeeling tires i just cringe hoping no one hits someone else. from what my coworkers saw or heard from others both lanes of traffic going southbound were at a standstill backed up from the red light at 54. thats when the person in the white car was waved to come on. sometimes you cant hear anything til an ambulance or fire truck is right up on you. with all the cars, sometimes its hard to see that far up the street too. lots of people drive too fast in this part of fayetteville and i wish people would just slow down in general regardless if traffic is moving or not. especially at lunch time. just keep your guard up and look more than once or twice in each direction. and keep looking in both directions so you know its clear when you turn anywhere regardless of time of day. thank god no one was killed. looks like theyre waiting for someone to get killed before something can be done about this intersection. take care everyone. god bless.

I avoid left turns w/o a light like I avoid the swine flu. There is another way to get out of Capt. D's and Arby's w/o making a left out of the main entrance. It may take longer to go out the back and around on 54, but to avoid an accident isn't it worth a little extra time? Save a life...go to the light!

As a personal friend of the person driving the car, I would like say that you need not judge. Emergency vehicles FLY through our roadways, as they should - but that does not leave room for any error on the part of anyone else on the roadways. Accidents happen! Take your car and attempt to make a north, left hand turn out of Captain D's at lunch hour traffic... it's not so easy. Haven't you ever looked and then when you looked back something was coming?!? The center lane is not called the "suicide lane" for nothing. This has ALWAYS been a dangerous intersection anyways. - and the Clayton County Ambulance was transferring a patient to Piedmont Fayette, not sure why.

Clayton County has its own hospital, Grady is to the North... Or is Fayette Community the next Grady???? My Goodness....Or did they have to come all this way to get some fish and chips??? I digress... And here they come.....PEACE
