Administrative appointments

The Coweta County Board of Education approved several individuals to fill open school system administrative positions for the 2007-2008 school year, at a March 28 called Board meeting, upon the recommendations of Superintendent Blake Bass.

Parents who wish to pre-register their children for Coweta County Schools’ After School Program can do so on May 7-11 at the elementary school which the child attends.

Clean-up in PTC on Saturday

The City of Peachtree City has scheduled a community-wide volunteer litter removal day on Saturday, April 7 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. as part of The Great American Cleanup. Individuals, families, and groups can volunteer to pick up litter in various sections of the City, along both roadways and paths, or to beautify parks or public areas throughout the City.

Senoia in line for grant

The city of Senoia could soon be the recipient of a $500,000 Employee Incentive Program grant.

Chattahoochee Flint Regional Development Center representative Lynn Miller told the City Council Monday night the money would be used to rework the plant expansion of Winpak Inc on Andrews Drive. The grant is used to benefit low and moderate income people, and Miller said the expansion and more than 60 new jobs would aid that community.

New village concept is tabled for six months

Coweta County’s massive new zoning ordinances won’t be totally finished for another six months.

On Tuesday night, the County Commission voted to not implement the new village center section of the ordinance until the fall after planning director Robert Tolleson suggested his staff might need some time to get used to many of the other changes in the zoning ordinances.

J.C. Booth took the state championship at the Georgia Science Olympiad held at Augusta State University March 24. Coached by science teacher Mary Wilde, the school’s team took 12 first place medals and earned a total of 15 medals in 23 events.

Math equals money for cancer research

Students at East Fayette have turned math skills into cold, hard cash for cancer research.

During the annual St. Jude’s Mathaton, students asked parents and friends for pledges donations based on the number of math problems they completed. Over $2,400 was raised this year to fund children's cancer research at St. Jude’s Children's Hospital.

Union City hopes tax district is successful

Union City Council has taken what it calls the next step in revitalizing the area around Union Station and Royal 85 Business Park, both located adjacent to I-85. Council members March 20 adopted a resolution to revise the Union City Town Center Redevelopment Plan and create a Tax Allocation District (TAD) in the two designated areas. The move awaits approval by the Fulton County Commission and Fulton County Board of Education.
