F’ville asks, ‘How many is too many people in 1 house?'

Whether tied to immigration or not, cities and counties across the state are discussing changes in population density that affect their communities. Fayetteville City Council will join that discussion April 5 in a called meeting to talk about residential occupancy and parking and group homes. In other words, the question is how many people living in one house is too many?

The work session is meant to be an exploratory conversation, said City Engineer Don Easterbrook. In that regard, invitations have been extended to individuals with knowledge on the topic areas and public comment is welcomed, Easterbrook added.

Easterbrook said the conversation on residential occupancy will center on the potential for setting a limit on the number of residents in a setting, while the parking component will address the number of vehicles appropriate for a single lot or on the street.

He said the discussion on group homes will include topics such as the definition of the facilities and their various delineations and descriptions and providing for their spacing within the city.

These issues are all related to neighborhood preservation,” Easterbrook said. “We’re looking to determine the proper direction to take on these topics.”

The meeting will be held April 5 at 5 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall.

One mother, one father, one grandparent OR one grandchild, and how ever many children the mother and father have. Also, a 500 Sq. Ft. per person minimum if more than 5. (i.e., 6 people = 3,000 sq.ft, 7 people = 3,500 sq.ft., 9 people = 4,500 sq.ft.,etc.)

100 square feet per person is much more like what we need to provide - especially to our special visitors. That's enough room to put your gym bag down on the floor and prop up 3 pictures of your extended family. You could squeeze in a chair or orange crate with your extra clothes, but that is your decision.

Actually, for the kids we could get by with 50 or 60 square feet. Read "My Name Is Charlotte Simmons" by Tom Wolfe who grew up in similar circumstances to mine in West Viginia - or West Virgina, if you read the T-shirts they gave the basketball team.

Smaller is better, enigma. The problem with PTC is the kids are spoiled. My neighbor has 5 cars, 2 golf carts and 3 people of driving age - plus 2 kids 14 and 15. Did you have that growing up?

North Cove if you must know.

Okay, I admit I just pulled a number out of my gluteous maximus (oh please big brother - don't ban me!).

I was actually hoping they might take my figures as an idea and tweak them. I was having a Polyanna moment.

I say we show the other bloggers how to compromise and just agree to my figures but drop a zero - that makes it 50 and I'll even drop the 'squared' to make it linear feet. One person every 50 feet. That's the ticket!

Deal?

Besides my crazy aunt, I have no grandfather but I have twelve grandmothers. My grandchildren who want to live with me are triplets!
We adopted 23 kids over the last 10 years and 17 are still at home.
My grandfather was Mormon and I also. as I said, have 12 Grandmothers who need a place to stay. Just as Mitt has 12 grandparents.
We have a big, big house but one big enough for all these people, even if allowed by the titles who can stay, would be seventeen times as big as the other houses in the sub-division and would violate the neighborhood rules. It would make Evander's mansion look small.
Now, I can afford the big house but I can't find enough land to build it on that doesn't cost several million. I can't do both.
Maybe if you said that only Eunichs could buy in your neighborhood, the problem would be solved?

You, even if all alone, would be forbidden from my neighborhood. There are institutions for people like you - and your aunt.

Deciding a maximum number of people in a residential house will be a good thing. The running joke on our street is to guess how many Mexicans, or generations of Mexicans, live in the house on our block and are they legal or not? We all believe they pooled their money to buy the house so the kids (who don't live there full time) can use the Fayette Co. Schools.

I guess it wouldn't, or shouldn't matter, but since they've moved in our neighborhood they've made zero attempt to get to know anyone. Even when they're outside they don't even look your way. When anyone says "Hi" to them, they don't respond. They're also the type to drive straight by you without as much as acknowledging your existance. We're all hoping they sell soon, but each month that goes by, it seems like more and more Mexicans are coming around to their house. I think they're up to about 7 or 8 cars now.

neighbors. I have the same situation in my neighborhood - a big house with a two-story four-car garage houses a multi-generational 'family.' They behave the same way your neighbors do. We've actually seen twin-sized beds in the garage when they've had the doors up.

I'll be at the City Council meeting this afternoon to see what happens. Will I see you there, too?

As for your detractors here, they are probably the type to not care until it happens in their neighborhood, otherwise they pounce on you for voicing an opinion that is shared by many more too afraid to speak up.

Why would these generations of Mexicans not want to talk to people who make them the focus of running jokes? Is your IQ double digit (that means two numbers, Buckwheat)?

First, this comment is so Racial Inspired. How can the citizen posit!

Unfortunatley, this is America, where Freedom is very open to everyone, correct. Grant it, they (race mentioned)do live with many family memebers. They may not speak because they don't speak English, unlike Most of the Fayetteville citizens whom appear to be very 'Stuck-Up' and don't speak anyway. I don't think we have the right to tell them how many people can live in their homes, just as long as they are citizens of USA.

"Unfortunately, this is America, where Freedom is very open to everyone, correct."

Was that supposed to be a question?

By the way, freedom is very open to everyone, that is an American citizen. Foreign nationals, even those with visas, do not enjoy the same freedoms that a American citizen does. They are not protected by the Constitution or Bill of Rights just as Americans aren't protected by the rights granted to citizens in their own home countries.

These people who don't see you may be aliens! I mean the kind who come in UFOs!
I can't understand people who act like that and all they ever do is work hard, won't speak. They expect to be reported any hour, you know. If they betray their accent to you, they are gone! Personally, I would much prefer that they live in tents and under hovels in the woods, or maybe in big vans, but they really like our big houses.
What I would do if I were you is I would go to a sub-division being built and sign on to roof houses and carry hod! That way they would have no job and have to go home to their hovel. Also, if you were to pick all the beans and cucumbers when they come in, these people wouldn't even show up.
They might be UFOers however, and if they are, one day they will just zap you. What kind of Bible do they carry?

It is a problem and I wouldn't want to live next door to anything like that either. A lot of cars on the street and a lot of unfamilar faces coming and going at all hours. And some developers have added to the problem by building the big monster houses with a zillion bedrooms and a basement that is a house unto it's self. As far as demeaning someone who doesn't like it, well, YOU go pick the beans and cucumbers yourself. It is wrong to assume they all work hard doing small jobs. Go to the DEA web site and have a gander, I don't think most of their most wanted are Swiss! The truth is, when someone is illegal, you don't know who or what you are living next to, but you DO KNOW they have already done something DISHONEST by coming here in the first place. Are you trying to say we should welcome them with open arms? You are stupid! In the 1st place, they were talking about ANYONE who crams more than the right number of people in a house, or cars on a street. If buckwheat doesn't like paying his hard earned money to live next to the huddled [illegal?}masses, that is his right, I am sure that is not what he bought into his area to do.

Failure to be politically correct at all times, in every way, within every person's point of view is worse than committing a crime (allegedly) using brut (I mean that in the same way one would have referred to Brutus, the mythic and eponymous ancestor from the middle ages, in a non-politically correct way.) force against another citizen of this country.

Now, as of today, the phrase "world wide war on terror" is also non-politically correct. These are always determined by the liberals among us as conservatives are not permitted to be offended.

I just want you to know these things so you don't find yourself banned from the mighty Citizen online blog like a certain Army Major. The very same soldier who actually fought to preserve and provide the first amendment so some backwoods, small-town 'journalist' could ban him (or you) from the local 'blog' in the name of 'justified censorship' (as if deleting and warning the scum bag wouldn't have been enough). You too, OldBeachBear, could find yourself actually having your right to free expression stifled by the cries of a liberal phony like basmati and the pandering by the staff of the citizen. (Ironically, the Citizen is the same paper that had an article asking this community to help a self-admitted pornographer repair his trailer floor.)

Anyway, beware of the big bad Citizen or basmati or any other whiney ("Cal, but Cal make him stop– in the name of state law 51-3-6 make him stop it! )" cry baby liberal upset.

I am afraid we won't be talking basmati.

I have seen you offend, attack personally, and run off enough good people on this site.

I will just avoid you in the future as I hope all others here will.

I would hate to anger you and then be ‘sued’ (how laughable) for ‘besmirching’ the reputation of an (anonymous) little grain of rice (basmati) and then be banned from this exclusive and highly touted (Ha!) site for being ‘offensive’ or using profanity after the cries and shrieks of the whinny little fellows that can’t take from one what she has dished out to so many.

No my little rice grain, just take these as my final words directed to you -

Bye sweetheart.
