Once again a Fayette middle school will represent Georgia at the National Science Olympiad. J.C. Booth took the state championship at the Georgia Science Olympiad held at Augusta State University March 24. Coached by science teacher Mary Wilde, the school’s team took 12 first place medals and earned a total of 15 medals in 23 events. Fayette had a good showing at the competition with three of its middle school teams placing in the top five. Rising Starr was awarded fourth place with Whitewater placing fifth. More than 50 teams from across the state participated in the tournament. As the champions, Booth’s team will go on to compete in the National Science Olympiad at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas on May 19. Booth has won the national title nine out of the last 11 years. This year will mark the school’s 14th trip to nationals. login to post comments |
