Crime spotted by officer on routine business check

A Peachtree City police officer foiled a burglary at the Kedron Village shopping center early Tuesday morning, police said.

One of the two Atlanta men arrested at the scene was out on bond for an attempted armed robbery in Douglas County and a burglary in Roswell, police said.

Cpl. Debbie Allen was conducting a business security check at the center when she saw a suspicious vehicle parked behind a business there, police said. She then found two Atlanta men in the area, and she noticed that two of the rear doors to the shopping center had recent pry marks on them, police said.

Police arrested Jamal Hakim Swinger, 31, of East Homes Drive, Atlanta and Jermier Maurice Dorsey, 19, of Lexington Avenue, Atlanta for criminal attempt to commit burglary, possession of burglary tools and loitering.

Police determined that Swinger was out on bond for “numerous” charges from other police agencies including the Douglas County armed robbery and the Roswell burglary, said Police Chief James Murray. He was denied bond Wednesday afternoon, meaning he will

Swinger is also suspected of committing other crimes in Peachtree City and nearby areas, police said. He also served a prison sentence for a previous armed robbery, Murray said.

The chief also lauded Allen’s work for making the arrest.

“She did a great job,” Murray said.
