Rockaway intersection plans to be explainedTue, 04/03/2007 - 4:25pm

Some residents on Peachtree City’s south side are worried that the impending realignment of Rockaway Road with Holly Grove Road will be used as a shortcut by Senoia motorists to avoid construction on Ga. Highway 74. Holly Grove Road would allow Senoia residents to reach Robinson Road and Peachtree Parkway, which can be used as an alternate route to Hwy. 74 north. Residents have noted to the City Council that the road doesn’t have its own golf cart path, so it is often used by pedestrians. But it’s so late in the game now that it’s extremely unlikely the road path will be changed, as the project is being funded by the Georgia Department of Transportation. The background leading up to the project will be discussed at Thursday’s meeting of the Peachtree City Council. The briefing was requested by Councilman Stuart Kourajian so residents would have the chance to learn how the city got to this point on the project. Also on council’s agenda is consideration of a citizen’s request to form a volunteer education commission to advise the council and the Fayette County Board of Education on matters involving Peachtree City. City Attorney Ted Meeker has issued a legal opinion that the city cannot create such a group because it has no legislative power to conduct educational missions. There is also no authority for the city to spend any city funds for an education commission, Meeker wrote in his opinion. login to post comments |
