eldergent: Republican Sheriff's Candidate Simmons

I believe that the only time anyone should start a job at the top is when it’s funded with his or her own money, therefore I won’t be voting for Mr. Simmons. But a friend told me he had listened to Simmons speak and was rather impressed so I decided to search the Citizen’s articles for information on him. I was surprised to see him listed as a republican candidate for sheriff. Given that Republican Afro-Americans are quite rare I wonder if he was a republican while working in mostly democratic Detroit. Does anyone know if he supports other GOP candidates for office? Will he vote for McCain or the democratic nominee? And how does the black community view him, will they turn out in large numbers for a republican candidate? Or is he the type of politicians who will “be” or say anything he thinks will get him elected?

I used to think that Barack Obama could be nothing more than a theological and political American liberal black man wanting sincerely to be President.

yardman5508: Study in black and white...

yardman5508's picture

Okay, so I am going to visit this topic yet again, but from a different angle.

We got to talking in Sunday School this morning about being black and being white in today's society. Actually, we got to talking about perceptions. The questions arose about the perception of good and evil and the colors identified with them. Since things bad are represented by black and things good are represented by white, what does this do to black people? How do they perceive themselves in terms of good and evil?

Richard Hobbs: Barack is an inkblot-You see what you want to see!

Richard Hobbs's picture

We know John McCain and Hillary. We generally know what they believe and stand for.

Barack is a blank slate, an inkblot, where for the past year, people have seen "hope" and "change" in the way the ink has spread across his very empty resume.

Margot: Did Senator Ronnie Chance Vote for Using School Taxes for Downtown Redevelopments?

I wonder how many property owners knew that their School Taxes had been used for 27 years by Local Governments and Private Developers for Downtown Redevelopment projects, like Tyrone. The law allowing Tax Allocation Districts (TAD’s) was passed in 1985 and ruled unconstitutional in February 2008. The Georgia Legislature under lobby pressure from local governments and developers immediately passed a resolution to change the Georgia Constitution to allow this Tax Theft to be voted on in November. Any legislator voting for it is hoping that unknowledgeable voters will vote to continue taking away money from schools. Does anyone know if Ronnie Chance voted for the referendum? Ronnie Chance, why don’t you tell us? Eric Dial, you’re a big supporter of schools. Will you help enlighten everyone to vote against keeping TAD’s. But you and all the Tyrone Council just voted to continue Tyrone’s Redevelopment Plan. Isn’t these a contradiction here? Does the Tyrone Council favor using School Taxes for Local Redevelopment? Is that why all of you lied to voters about changing Tyrone’s Ordinance? Isn’t it true that Tyrone’s Zoning Ordinance is a significant part of the Comprehensive Plan? Isn’t it a fact that the Comprehensive Plan states that Developers Burt Clark, John Wieland and Joel Ogletree are major stakeholders in Tyrone’s Downtown Redevelopment? And isn’t also true that these Developers would be eligible to use School Taxes for Private TAD development money? The Tyrone Planning Commission is reviewing their Comprehensive Plan at 7pm Tue. May 8. Concerned parents should be there to ask these questions about their school taxes.

eldergent: Vampires in the voting booth

I was glad to read recently that the Supreme Court has realized that vampires are the only creatures that can’t be photographed and permitted Indiana’s photo ID requirement for voters to stand. For far too long these blood suckers have used documents sans pictures to pass as human and try to sway government for the benefit of the undead. Indiana passed the photo law after multiple voting, which is easy for shape-shifters, almost created a “free blood bank” in Gary, Indiana - a hotbed of vampirism. Now if the other states will follow suit we have a chance to drive these descendents of Dracula back to the caskets they came from. Or we could just close the polls before sunset.
