A Peachtree City man is wanted on several criminal charges revolving around a tirade at a Packers youth football game Saturday, Sept. 8, and fleeing from a police officer at Riley Field two days later.

The new Fayetteville Police SWAT team was joined last week by SWAT team members from Peachtree City, each sworn for the other’s city by Judge W. Fletcher Sams at Fayette County Justice Center. The accompanying memorandum of understanding (MOU) gives the teams operational capability in both cities.

KROGER AND GOODWILL ANNOUNCE PLANS FOR PEACHTREE CITY STORE

Atlanta, Georgia, September 14, 2007 –The Kroger Co. and Goodwill announced today that Goodwill has decided not to lease the Kroger store at 100 N. Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree City, Georgia.

"After dialogue with Kroger and with the community, we have decided to cancel our plans to operate a Goodwill store at this location in Peachtree City,” said Raymond Bishop, President and CEO of Goodwill of North Georgia. “We are proud members of many communities in Georgia, and we rely heavily on the support of our neighbors and customers. However, in this instance, we believe that a lack of support from the community could be detrimental to our success in the location,” said Mr. Bishop.

City Hall has been flooded with e-mail complaints about the Kroger Company’s decision to close its store at the Peachtree Crossings East shopping center in Peachtree City, replacing it with a Goodwill store.

Peachtree City may just have its first-ever billboards, and of at all places the luxuriously-designed Avenue shopping center.

But the city wants the signs taken down, as not only does the city have a ban on traditional billboards, but they are also apparently in violation of the special sign rules the city drew up for The Avenue when the development was approved, officials said.

Several residents from the Cardiff Park and Planterra Ridge neighborhoods spoke in favor of the City Council waiving its big box rules, which cap store sizes at 32,000 square feet, for a proposed 89,000 square-foot Kohl’s Department Store south of Ga. Highway 54 at Line Creek Drive.
