Three candidates for Post 1 and four for Post 2 have paid their qualifying fees to run for the Peachtree City Council in the November election. According to a news release from City Hall, the following have qualified to run: Post 1: Mike Harman, 42, 222 Terrane Ridge, is a sales manager for Biorem Environmental, Inc. and a 9-year resident of Peachtree City. Harman was appointed to the open seat Aug. 13 by the remaining four council members after Councilwoman Judi-ann Rutherford resigned to join her husband overseas. Harman's appointed term ends Dec. 31. Prior to his council appointment, Harman was the chairman of the Peachtree City Water and Sewer Authority, a non-paid volunteer position. Don Haddix, 56, 7 Dover Trail, lists his occupation as “semi-retired.” He has lived in Peachtree City 20 years. Thomas J. O’Toole Jr., 38, 710 Bookman Point, is an education data management specialist and has lived in Peachtree City for one year. Post 2 Post 2 Councilman Stuart Kourajian decided to make a run for the Fayette County Commission, leaving this seat open after Dec. 31. There were four qualifiers: Mark Hollums, 47, 102 Robinson Bend Trail, is a commercial property manager and has lived in Peachtree City 15 years. Michael L. “Mike” King, 58, 102 Highgreen Ridge, is a commercial account manager for Wade Ford and has lived in Peachtree City for 20 years. Doug Sturbaum, 39, 455 Plantain Terrace, is an IT vendor management specialist for Panasonic Automotive Systems. He has lived in Peachtree City for one year. Dar Thompson, 45, 118 Century Park Place, is the owner of Better Bodies Fitness, a group of health and workout clubs. He is a 9-year resident of Peachtree City. Thompson ran for mayor in 2005, but failed to make the runoff, which was won by current Mayor Harold Logsdon. Thompson, Haddix and O'Toole all applied for the appointive position in August, but were passed over in favor of Harman. login to post comments |
