Limited H1N1 vaccine available for toddlers

The Coweta County Health Dept. has received a limited number of doses of nasal spray vaccine for the H1N1 flu to be administered only to healthy young children ages 2-4. Walk-ins are welcome but parents are asked to call before they come to the office.

Coweta schools at 100 percent on AYP

The Georgia Department of Education (DOE) Oct. 1 announced that all 27 Coweta County Schools met the requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind Act by achieving 2008-2009 Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) requirements.

Kohei Fukuda, a mechanical design engineer; Kazuha Shoji, a software programmer; and Makoto Yamada, a design engineer, will work at TSG-USA’s facility in Japan, but came to the United States for two weeks of employee orientation. 

Newnan police still seek attacker of elderly woman

Newnan Police are still looking for the person or persons responsible for the Sept. 21 attack of a 90 year-old Newnan woman in her home on Pinson Street. Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the attacker.

Senoia browntone Southern Living Magazine names a planned Senoia brownstone as its 2010 Idea Home.

Sitting at a table in the Redneck Gourmet in downtown Senoia, it was difficult for Scott Tigchelaar to contain his excitement. The animation in his voice and on his face was a dead give-away that something important was about to happen. And it did. Southern Living Magazine has named the 3.5-story brownstone to be built on the site of the Gin Property development as its Idea House for 2010.

Ground broken Tuesday for Chatt Bend State Park

The day finally arrived. The groundbreaking ceremony for the nearly 3,000-acre Chattahoochee Bend State Park, the newest entry in Georgia’s state park system, was held Sept. 29. The pristine site in western Coweta borders the Chattahoochee River.

Unemployment falls in Coweta

The unemployment situation in Coweta is beginning to look a bit better. Rates in August decreased significantly in Newnan and across the county, dropping nearly three-quarters of a percent.

“We dodged a bullet and that’s a good thing.” That was the assessment of Coweta County Emergency Management Director Jay Jones on the heavy rainfall amounts that plagued Coweta for nearly a week. And though the type of flooding in north metro Atlanta avoided nearly all of Coweta there were some near the Chattahoochee River that were dramatically affected by flood waters.

It was a way to say thank you for the care he was given in a time of need and to raise money for wounded warriors. Tyrone resident Matthew Sanchez organized a fundraiser Sept. 15 at the Texas Roadhouse Restaurant in Newnan to benefit the Shepherd Center and the SHARE Initiative for injured soldiers. The fundraiser was an extension of the “We Ride for Shepherd” that had Sanchez, Fayetteville resident Marina Fleming and three others traveling more than 4,200 miles across the U.S. earlier this year.

The proposal to construct an asphalt plant on Elzie Johnson Road off Ga. Highway 154 on the property of the Vulcan Madras Quarry received the approval of the Coweta County Commission at its Sept. 15 meeting.

Coweta commissioners to adopt budget Sept. 24

It is all over but the vote. Coweta County commissioners held a budget hearing Sept. 15 and are expected to approve the $59.4 million budget at the Sept. 24 meeting. The price tag represents a decrease of more than $1 million over last year.

Coweta budget hearing scheduled for Sept. 15

It is a sign of the economic times. Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the budget Sept. 15 that is set to decrease by more than $1 million over last year. Budget adoption is scheduled for Sept. 24.
