Work on Newnan’s historic courthouse continues, with county commissioners earlier this week approving several change orders and denying two others.

One of the orders in the amount of $11,712 will go to install counter flashing above the third floor cornice. Counter flashing was not a part of the original scope of work but is needed to insure that water does not migrate behind the cornice.

A second change order for $1,009 will go to install copper expansion joints at the upper cornice gutters at the north and south elevation.

The third change provides water, snow and ice diverters to protect the ornamental copper below the clock faces. The cost of this order is $972.35.

Commissioners decided to deny two change orders per staff recommendation. Those included work totaling nearly $20,000 that staff felt could be handled in-house to reduce costs.

The rehabilitation project is expected to be completed in mid-2010.
