Newnan Police are still looking for the person or persons responsible for the Sept. 21 attack of a 90 year-old Newnan woman in her home on Pinson Street. Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the attacker.

Forty-one year-old William Mayen who was considered a person of interest in the attack has cooperated with police and is no longer considered a suspect or a person of interest, said Newnan Public Information Officer Gina Snider. Mayen is being held on other unrelated charges, Snider said.

Snider said the incident unfolded when Coweta 911 received a call concerning an unknown medical problem at a Pinson Street address. The caller indicated the victim was bleeding. EMS, the Newnan Fire Dept. and police detectives were dispatched to the address, Snider said.

Snider said the victim, a 90-year-old woman, was found on the floor of her bedroom. She was incoherent and unable to tell first responders what had happened to her.

Snider said the woman had injuries to her face and was bleeding from other injuries. There was evidence that she had been beaten, and assaulted with some type of sharp object, said Snider. The initial investigation found evidence that force had been used to enter her house.

The victim was transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and evidence obtained to determine if she had been sexually assaulted.

The victim’s family is offering a reward to anyone that provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the assault.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Rick Mires or Deputy Chief Rodney Riggs at (770) 254-2355, ext 118 or 133. May also call Newnan Police Department Tip Line at (770)254-2350.
