It is all over but the vote. Coweta County commissioners held a budget hearing Sept. 15 and are expected to approve the $59.4 million budget at the Sept. 24 meeting. The price tag represents a decrease of more than $1 million over last year.
Larger revenue categories include $30.5 million in property taxes, $18.4 million in sales and use tax, $4.545 million in fines and forfeitures, $2.4 million in licenses and permits and $1.7 million in reimbursements.

On the expenditure side, the sheriff’s office is budgeted for $10.5 million along with road construction at $4.9 million, the Road Dept. at $3.57 million, the jail at $4.8 million and the correctional institute at $2.7 million.

Commissioners during the summer voted to maintain the 7.66 mill rate for the incorporated areas and lower the unincorporated rate to 6.93 mills from last year’s 6.98 mills. The local economy saw only minor digest growth in the incorporated areas and a decrease in growth in the unincorporated areas.

The 2010 general fund budget reflects a decrease of approximately $1.088 million over the 2009 budget that totaled $60.5 million.
