The Nov. 8 ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in front of Peachtree City Hall was a time of remembrance for all of Fayette County.

Nearly 100 attended the observance, transforming the area around the memorial and flagpoles into a living tribute to those that have served their country in life and in death.

To that end, the Fayetteville City Council Nov. 6 approved a request by Piedmont Fayette Hospital to annex and rezone 17.85 acres situated behind the hospital. Also at the meeting, council members approved a temporary exemption on impact fees and sewer proportionate fees.

More than 200 people were on hand Oct. 31 for the groundbreaking for Piedmont Newnan Hospital, located on Poplar Road at I-85. Half the hospital complex is expected to open in early 2011, with the remainder of the $194 million complex opening in 2020. With eight floors and a basement, Piedmont Newnan should be the tallest building in southwest metro Atlanta.

Coweta County’s election results show 29 of 30 precincts tallied. Coweta has 80,273 registered voters, with 66.88 percent casting a ballot. Incumbent Dist. 1 Commissioner Paul Poole kept his seat while the Dist. 5 race is still close with Al Smith leading 52.29 percent to 47.66 percent for Rob Brass.
