Education SPLOST, Smola win; PTC ice rink sinks; Fayetteville OKs Sunday alcohol drink sales With all precincts reporting tonight, the education SPLOST passed by 1,212 votes; the Peachtree City recreation bond was defeated with 62.47 percent voting no and Fayetteville will get Sunday alcohol by the drink sales by a 58-41 margin. - Janet Smola defeated write-in candidate Nicole File with 88.47 percent of the vote. - Incumbent Robert Ruppenthal narrowly held off Post 3 magistrate challenger Sheila S. Huddleston; Ruppenthal won by 651 votes with 50.66 percent of the votes. - Incumbent James A. White won with 53.53 percent over challenger Jason B. Thompson. - John McCain won Fayette County with 64.73 percent of the vote compared to 34 percent for Barack Obama in the presidential race. - Incumbent Saxby Chambliss had 61.94 percent lead in Fayette County over his opponent, Jim Martin, for the U.S. Senate race. - Incumbent Ronnie Chance had 73.8 percent of the vote in Fayette County over challenger Jerry Brillant for the Ga. Senate District 16 race. - Incumbent U.S. Congressman Lynn Westmoreland won Fayette County with 67.14 percent with a lead over challenger Stephen Camp. These results are not finalized as the elections officials need to investigate provisional ballots filed and also scanned paper absentee ballots that were rejected by the machine. The wait also gives more time for absentee ballots from overseas military members to arrive. It is expected that the election will be certified Friday afternoon. login to post comments |
