Kearney Named Semi-Finalist in Science SymposiumEmma Kearney, a freshman at McIntosh High School, was named a semi-finalist in the 2006 Georgia Junior Science and Humanities Symposium which took place Feb. 26-28 at the University of Georgia. She was the only 9th-grader selected as one of the 12 semi-finalists. Line Creek Civitan Club Hosts Charter Ceremony For Sandy Creek High School Junior Civitan ClubThe Line Creek Civitan Club recently hosted the chartering of the Sandy Creek High School Junior Civitan Club at the W.K. Café in Peachtree City. Julia Ivey, President of the Line Creek Civitan Club, congratulated Sandy Creek High School and Mandy Burnett, the faculty adviser, for their assistance and hard work in providing availability of a civic club at Sandy Creek High School. The club gives the students an opportunity to demonstrate good citizenship by supporting local charities and programs dedicated to children and adults with developmental disabilities. Race for Riley started with a mother’s loveIt is a race for love, a race for life. It is a race born in the love for four year-old Riley Peek. It is a race determined to enhance awareness and participation and to raise needed research funds for the Mitochondrial disease that affects this precious little girl and so many other children. Now in its second year, the Race for Riley fundraising event will be held April 29 at Georgia Baptist Children’s Home in Palmetto. Fayetteville resident Paris Bennett has once again made it to the next round. Her rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “All I Do” on last night’s performance show had enough people voting for her to keep her out of the dreaded bottom three. It was just over a year ago that 20-year-old Jennifer Thayer, a Fayetteville resident, applied for the scholarship which would take her to Spain for the month of June.
