Melanie Long of Tyrone, Ga. was recently named Miss Sandy Creek High School. Long, a National Merit Finalist, is a National Achievement Scholarship finalist, is in the Who's Who among high school students, and was a mayor at Girls State last summer. Long also represented Georgia in the National Student Leadership Conference, is on the High Honor Roll and likes to participate in volunteer work. She is an usher at Little Vine Baptist Church in Tyrone, and is a part of the youth department. She has been accepted into the Georgia Institute of Technology and has applied to Harvard, Duke, and Yale universities. Long is a member of the varsity track team, is the vice president of Mu Alpha Theta and is a member of the Beta Club, Math Team, and Science Olympiad.
