Resident to PTC Council: ‘We need some answers about police HQ problems’

Many of us in the community are very upset [about] the developments and lack of news on the ongoing problems concerning the police station facility.

A pastor’s explanation of Obama’s minister’s black liberation theology

A theology unfamiliar to many Americans has suddenly been thrust upon them in the current presidential primary campaign.

What’s a ‘central bank’ anyway?

1775: the American Revolutionary War began. American sought to detach from England and its oppressive monarchy. Though many reasons are cited for the Revolution, one in particular sticks out as the prime cause: that King George III of England outlawed the interest-free, independent currency the Colonies were producing and using for themselves, in turn forcing them to borrow money from the central Bank of England, at interest, immediately putting the Colonies into debt. As Benjamin Franklin later wrote:

Ballard ‘outstanding’ as a D.A.

Over the course of the last few weeks, I have been shocked at the attacks on our district attorney, Scott Ballard. It is my understanding that it has been reported that a few people in our community have referred to Scott as a “devil” and “wicked.”

Reader objects to publication policy

I would like to present an urgent matter to the people of Coweta and its surrounding counties regarding the Coweta County student publication policy. The current policy is the second most restrictive in the state.

Roll the dice on 54W or go for sure thing?

Nothing like beating a dead horse, but Capitol Development’s Ga. Highway 54 West project is not dead yet.

It would have been ideal to keep that area as it is, green, via the taxpayers buying it from Mr. McMurrain. But that is not going to happen. It would have been better to negotiate a land swap for the roads instead of “selling” them, to reduce the size of the commercial property and increase the buffer to the nature area, and the adjoining residential areas. But that is not going to happen, either.

‘Great sports, Fayette’ includes cheerleading

Thank you for highlighting the achievements of Fayette County athletes in your editorial opinions last week.

I am “blown away” and proud of all the accomplishments of our local athletes, including the area’s high school cheerleaders.

Ga. legislators trying to sell us sub-prime-like ‘tax cuts’

The collapse in June 2007 of two internal Bear Stearns hedge funds that had been heavily invested in mortgage securities kicked off the full-fledged market panic that now grips our economy.

Obama’s minister: America, we should beware

I am so happy that the truth is finally coming out about a candidate for President of the United States of America. For months now, the talk online was about the hatred of whites that Obama has; now his minister has been exposed by the media.

Support Web petition for students’ free speech

I would like to present an urgent matter to the people of Coweta and its surrounding counties regarding the Coweta County student publication policy. The current policy is the second most restrictive in the state.

District voting: Those in power continue age-old oppressions

What should we tell our children about voting? How about telling them the truth about the struggle to uphold this vital element of democracy?

Sheriff candidate Simmons pledges to implement community policing here

Since announcing my candidacy for the Republican nomination for Fayette County sheriff on Nov. 30, 2007, I have been meeting with citizens and business owners in an effort to gather their opinions on public safety.

Wanted: One real conservative candidate, but look what we’ve got

This election year is really gut-wrenching for me. I look at the candidates and the things said and done and wonder where our country is headed.

Tax strike ’08: Put Fed, IRS out of business

I just finished watching what has been named “The Most Important Video on the Internet.” I would like to share what I have learned as a result, with as many citizens as I am allowed to. To see it for yourself go to www.freedomtofascism.com” or www.restoretherepublic.com.

PTC Council should ensure all its workers have professional credentials

Let’s call it Ewing’s Ordinance. Ewing’s Peachtree City Ordinance. Yeah, now that sounds pretty good.

You know, there are many of us fine citizens here in Peachtree City who receive governmental services from the city all the time. Well, let’s say that there was a governmental worker that handled the services which you where getting, but alas, that worker did not hold the professional credentials/certifications required by our fine state laws. How would you ever know?

Disaster ahead for U.S. if Obama is elected

Recently the news is full of stories covering Barack Obama’s drive to be the Democratic Party’s nominee for president of the United States.

How Obama, district voting are similar

What is happening today in Fayette was happening in Chicago 30 years ago. In fact, it’s happening all across America.

Racial mistrust can change if commission embraces district voting

From Judith Moore, private citizen and resident of Fayette County: Many of us Southern ladies were instructed by our mamas never to talk about politics and religion because that would surely result in unpleasantness. They surely were right about the unpleasantness part. But following such advice leaves a vacuum to be filled by those who have no qualms about being unpleasant, as evidenced by many of the bloggers who visit The Citizen’s website.

Grads of out of state colleges are Ga. citizens, deserve school tags

To Sen. Ronnie Chance: We reside in your district, we are University of Florida alumni, one of the original 1,000 Gator tag applicants, and we want you to know that we oppose H.B. 1165.

Tags: Legislature should behave like educated adults

Fayette County is one of the most educated counties in the state of Georgia. We have earned a number of college degrees per capita that rivals any county in the state. A quick glance at the vehicles on our roads reflects our widespread respect for higher education: License plates featuring 24 Georgia colleges and universities, as well as Auburn, Clemson, and more are represented.

Faux conservatives

The faux conservative voices in Fayette County are telling us that conservative principles only matter in campaign rhetoric and not practical application. In the South, we call that talking out of both sides of your mouth. State Rep. Matt Ramsey’s letter on district voting was a real humdinger in a very un-conservative way.

As I warned, district voting is back again

Is the current attempt to force district voting on the citizens of Fayette county a result of the re-opening of the topic by the commission? I hope not.

Deputy Mindar sets race for Fayette sheriff

Forget about Goodwill; tattoo parlor is coming to the very center of PTC

I have learned today that Peachtree City is going to have a tattoo parlor. It has already gotten a license and will be located in Peachtree Crossing Shopping Center. This is directly behind McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A and near The Hobby Shop. Just a hop, skip and a jump away from McIntosh High, all places where you can find our young people.

Councilman Haddix sets up forum

A promise made was to establish a forum for more open communications with the citizens of Peachtree City.

The effort to establish a PTC Official Forum failed because the demands of law upon a government website could not accommodate the restrictions some council members wished to place upon it.

Broken promises, powerful politicians

Many have asked if the voters have the right to sue elected officials for broken promises. How about compensation for physical injury like the whiplash caused by the 180-degree change in course once they are elected?

Held hostage by a traffic light
