Wanted: One real conservative candidate, but look what we’ve got

This election year is really gut-wrenching for me. I look at the candidates and the things said and done and wonder where our country is headed.

On the one side are the Democratic candidates. They spout words without the facts to back them up, messages of hope without action or truth. They assault the office of the presidency and vice presidency with accusations, lies and outright slander without concern for our country, our people or the world view.

They attack the actions in Iraq as an ongoing war, when in reality it’s a time of support for a democratic form of government gaining strength to stand on its own two feet.

They talk of the death of Americans in Iraq and ignore far greater casualties on the streets of our own nation’s capital.

Are we truly interested in addressing our own cultural problems or do we just want another American Idol?

On the other side we have the Republican candidate, John McCain. Is McCain a conservative or liberal? The actions of the past have showed him to be far from a conservative and more of a maverick or “My way or the highway.”

While I would not normally vote for McCain, I feel I have no choice this time if I want to retain my freedom. The Democrats seem bound and determined to try and take it way through government control of health care and other programs.

McCain and the Democrats would give our hard earned money and achievements to illegals, sticking us with the bill. No easy choice here, but we can still fight against these attempts by being heard.

I challenge all of you to not be fooled by the rhetoric, but to listen closely to what is being said and investigate the claims. Just because they’re running for office does mean that they are telling the truth. Their track records tell loads about who the candidates are and forecast a future that we may want no part of.

There is no Jack Kennedy or Ronald Reagan among these candidates.

"They assault the office of the presidency and vice presidency with accusations, lies and outright slander without concern for our country, our people or the world view.

It has become very difficult for many of us to respect our President and VP, because of the multitude of lies the Bush administration has fed this country over the past 7 years and the continued mismanagement of our nation. Remember WMD's?? Remember Bush/Cheney's attempt to link Saddam to 9/11? Remember Colin Powell and the little vile of powder, holding it up to the camera to scare us? Remember invading a sovereign country (Iraq) that was never a threat to the U.S? Remember turning our attention AWAY from Afghanistan and Osama Bin Laden, so Bush could go after the man who tried to kill his "daddy." Remember watching Bush pat Brownie on the back during Katrina ('good job') while an entire city suffered for days in filth and misery? Remember when the economy was flourishing and gas prices were affordable? Must I continue? Bush has done the slandering, the lying and has thumbed his nose at us and as a result, he has lost the public trust. What you're seeing now, are the American people reacting - finally.

And it has little to do with Democrat OR Republican at this point. It has to do with the millions of Americans who love their country, but despise this administration.

Take off your blinders Mr. Hedlund and stop listening to Limbaugh and Hannity. McCain would be a welcome change from Bush, and I am a Democrat.

I'm just happy McCain believes in evolution.

So David, what do I have that I can look back on and say, "Thank conservatism for....."

Am I better off than I was before conservatism and its president implemented policies?

How about a massively rising debt ($9 trillion and counting). And a doubling the size of the US Govt. How about another "bailout" of $600 per person costing an additional $145 billion to the debt our children will have to pay for. Our income tax rate went down about 5%to6% saving someone who earns $100,000 less than $600 per month. The cost of that tax cut (and the others)? Rising energy. The cost of energy alone has more than eaten up that savings. The loss of earnings, benefits, retirements. A falling dollar. In 2000 the Euro was $.97. Now its $156. We buy oil in Euros now not dollars. $110 per barrel and rising rapidly. And what has Bush done? Just like his Dad, he simply "stays the course." By the way, before you unload on the "Democratic Congress," all this happened under a Republican Congress.
So we have become fed up and cynical. Bush to this day fails to even consider that he has ever made a mistake. He refuses to take responsibility for himself and his administration. He won't even admit that anything is wrong!
McCain promises "more of the same." He does that to appeal to people like you. Is this really the road we should be continuing on?
Oh, by the way, the Taliban is regaining power in Afganistan causing us to send more troops. Bin Laden is still free. Iraq is a major mess devisive not only to the US but the world.

By the way, here is an interesting interview on CNBC regarding the bailouts, printing money, and Bernanke. Watch it, it's interesting.

Just a few minor points, Birdman –

“How about a massively rising debt ($9 trillion and counting)”

The federal debt, contrary to popular belief, has grown every year for many decades. It was massive when Bush took over and has only become “massiver” because of the massive spending bills he continues to sign. If a democrat gets elected in November and total spending goes down under his/her leadership, I will eat my keyboard!

“How about another "bailout" of $600 per person costing an additional $145 billion to the debt our children will have to pay for”

It is indeed pure folly because it’s not a tax rebate like Bush wanted (elimination of the 10% bracket) but rather a government give-away program like the liberals and “moderates” wanted.

“Our income tax rate went down about 5%to6% saving someone who earns $100,000 less than $600 per month. The cost of that tax cut (and the others)? Rising energy.”…” The loss of earnings, benefits, retirements.”

You’ll have to explain to me how the tax cuts resulted in higher energy costs and lower earnings, benefits and retirements. Especially since tax receipts are higher now than they have ever been. And I think I know how to spend and invest that extra $600/month better than some government hack in D.C. The only problem with the Bush tax cuts is that they weren’t big enough and they weren’t permanent.
