Thank you for highlighting the achievements of Fayette County athletes in your editorial opinions last week.

I am “blown away” and proud of all the accomplishments of our local athletes, including the area’s high school cheerleaders.

Fayette County varsity competition cheerleaders won three of the top four Class AAAA division spots at the state cheerleading competition in November. That’s three spots out of approximately 80 Class AAAA teams in the state.

Starr’s Mill placed second, Whitewater placed third and McIntosh placed fourth. This is quite an accomplishment for one county. Northgate, another great team in our area, placed first.

These teams have a very intense competition season that runs concurrent with the football cheerleading season. In addition, many of the teams’ members compete on all-star teams in the area during the same timeframe.

They are true athletes who deserve the same recognition as other high school athletes in our county.
