The property in question is 16.7 acres off Trickum Creek Road and it backs up to Trickum Creek, a fact that drew the commission’s interest at its Wednesday afternoon meeting.

Community assistance is being sought for an initiative to provide school supplies to needy children.

Help is needed urgently as there are quite a few children whose needs haven’t been met yet with just one week before school starts.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) late Friday ordered a temporary halt to all solid waste treatment activities at a south Fulton plant following persistent complaints of illnesses resulting from a pesticide component handled at the facility just beyond the Fayette County line.

74 to be shut down at RR next weekend

Crews to repair railroad crossing

Getting to and from the Interstate will be a bit tougher next weekend as part of Ga. Highway 74 in Tyrone will be closed so the CSX railroad tracks can be repaired, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Union City continues annexation efforts

Union City continues to be busy during the summer of annexation. Planning Commission members July 24 held 32 public hearings, recommending the rezoning and annexation of more than 580 acres north of the city and 39 acres as part of an existing unincorporated island.

Commission votes to annex 1,100 acres

Palmetto’s largest rezoning and annexation move thus far in South Fulton’s summer of annexation ended Thursday with a recommendation from the city’s Planning Commission to bring nearly 1,100 acres of property into the city. Commissioners also voted to table a move to annex Willow Oak Landfill and denied at request to rezone property on Beckman Drive for condominiums.

NAACP to target young men with conference

The Fayette County branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will be holding a “Men of Valor” conference Aug. 12 at Sandy Creek High School from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
