The pilot who died in a plane crash early Thursday morning at Falcon Field has been identified as Leo Giles of Peachtree City.

Officials said Giles was taking off from the airport when the crash occurred. The aircraft was a SkyStar Vixen, an experimental plane that can be built at home from a kit.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash but has declined to release details. The inquiry could take months, officials said.
