Senoia charter school plans moving forwardPlans are moving forward for the establishment of a charter school in Senoia. Charter Schools USA representatives held their second meeting with the parents of potential students last week at the Freeman Sasser Building, laying out their plans and updating the more than 40 in attendance. A petition to establish the school will be sent to Coweta County School Board in May. Newnan Youth City Council applicants soughtIt is designed to provide experience on local governance from the perspective of people in their teens. The City of Newnan Youth Activities Commission has formalized plans and is accepting applications for the new Youth City Council. The council will consist of students from each high school and of home-schooled students. Coweta burn ban begins May 1May 1 marks the official start of Smog Season in Georgia. For 54 counties throughout the state, that means the annual ban on open burning will be in effect once again. In the interest of public health, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) will be enforcing the ban through September 30, during the hot summer months when ground level ozone and particle pollution are more likely to reach unhealthy levels. ATM thieves got away with moneyMachine, truck found in wooded area near Hwys. 54/74. The ATM machine stolen from Regions Bank in Peachtree City early Monday morning has been recovered, police said. The thieves were able to gain access to the interior of the machine and were able to get a large sum of money, police said. Senoia water bills going upCity to offer outdoor water meters to curb sewer bills The average residential water bill in Senoia will be going up by about 22 percent thanks to a measure adopted Monday by the City Council. This is the first water rate increase since 1998, City Administrator Richard Ferry said, adding that it will not affect sewer rates. Animal shelter discussed at commission meetingCoweta County commissioners at the April 21 meeting heard from Sharpsburg resident Michelle Humphries on the subject of conditions at the shelter and the plight of some of the animals there. Commissioners also heard from animal shelter director, Warden Bill McKenzie on improvements made recently at the facility. Commissioners said they would continue to look at ways to improve conditions at the shelter. Senoia encouraging more recyclingSenoia officials are hoping to convince more residents to recycle. The city’s garbage company, Dependable Waste, offers recycling for free, City Manager Richard Ferry said at Monday’s City Council meeting. PTC reports daytime burglary in SmokeriseResidents asked to report suspicious vehicles to non-emergency number: 770-461-4357 Burglars hit a home in the Smokerise subdivision in Peachtree City Monday between 9 a.m. and noon, police said. Neighbors reported seeing an older white pickup parked in front of the home at 204 Smokerise Trace at the time, police said. The truck had a drive-out tag on the back and police have issued the above photo which is thought to be the suspects’ truck. |
