Unemployment down a little in Coweta, lower than state averageThu, 04/23/2009 - 2:22pm

Coweta County’s preliminary unemployment rate for March fell by one-tenth of a point to 8.9 percent, a mirror image of the slight decrease experienced in the Chattahoochee-Flint region. Preliminary unemployment figures for March showed a slight decrease in Coweta’s rate, according to Georgia Dept. of Labor. Revised February figures showed a rate of 9.0 percent compared to preliminary March figures of 8.9 percent. Indicating the significance of the recession, the revised figures for March 2008 showed an unemployment rate of 4.8 percent. Across the Chattahoochee-Flint area the unemployment rate also dropped by one-tenth of a percentage point. March unemployment rates were put at 10.5 percent compared to 10.6 percent in February. The rate for March 2008 was 5.9 percent. Statewide, Georgia’s current unemployment rate is 9.2 percent compared with a national rate of 8.5 percent.
