The Tyrone Town Council put an issue behind them Thursday night by paying off the balance that provides an early retirement of the outstanding sewer loan with the City of Fairburn. The council also amended the sewer agreement with Fairburn pertaining to a recent rate increase.

The growth in fire department personnel has led Peachtree City to authorize an expansion of its Satterthwaite station near the intersection of Peachtree Parkway and Ga. Highway 54.

A Special Forces soldier who grew up in Peachtree City died Wednesday, one day after his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan, according to the U.S. Army.

Sgt. First Class Shawn P. McCloskey, 33, a Green Beret in the Special Forces, was conducting a mounted patrol in support of combat operations in the Afghan city of Ghur Ghuri when the explosion occurred Tuesday, according to a news release from the U.S. Army.

The proposal to construct an asphalt plant on Elzie Johnson Road off Ga. Highway 154 on the property of the Vulcan Madras Quarry received the approval of the Coweta County Commission at its Sept. 15 meeting.

It is all over but the vote. Coweta County commissioners held a budget hearing Sept. 15 and are expected to approve the $59.4 million budget at the Sept. 24 meeting. The price tag represents a decrease of more than $1 million over last year.
