The growth in fire department personnel has led Peachtree City to authorize an expansion of its Satterthwaite station near the intersection of Peachtree Parkway and Ga. Highway 54.

The expansion will add 1,250 square feet to the building.

The city council Thursday night selected the Leo A. Daly architecture firm to handle the design and construction management of the project. The cost of that contract is $56,000.

Included in the station upgrade is a switch from septic to sewer service.
The project is part of a $1.08 million plan to upgrade and repair fire stations and also resurface the city hall parking lot. The entire cost will be financed by the city.

In other business Thursday night, council approved spending $12,790 to upgrade the fire department’s record keeping software. The upgrade was necessary before next year when the company would stop servicing that version of the software, fire officials said. The upgrade will also provide a quicker system when entering or looking up reports.

The money is being taken from leftover funds from the fire department’s equipment repair account.
