An election-time tradition in Peachtree City will once again give residents a chance to grill candidates for the mayor and city council races in the Nov. 3 contest.

The Rotary Club of Peachtree City is hosting a meet the candidates forum Tuesday, Oct. 6 from 6:45 to 9:15 at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center.

All candidates for council have been invited to attend the event, which is free of charge. The forum follows a question-and-answer format, and candidates are typically given the opportunity for opening and closing remarks.

Citizens can submit their own questions for consideration at the event. The questions will be vetted by a three-person panel of Rotarians; only issue-related questions will be accepted for presentation to the candidates.

The event is being sponsored by the Rotary Club’s Get Out The Vote committee.
No matter what happens on election day, the city is assured of a new mayor as current mayor Harold Logsdon has decided not to run again.

And due to the mayoral aspirations of current councilman Don Haddix, who had to resign mid-term, three of the four council seats will be up for election as well.

The only person guaranteed a spot on the City Council Jan. 1 is current Councilman Doug Sturbaum, who is in the middle of his four-year term.

What is your opinion of a $500,000 annual expenditure for PTC Tourism?
And that is without ampitheater or tennis center.

Law sets minimum expenditures of Hotel/Motel tax that must be spent of legally defined Tourism issues. Not an option.

Other portions of H/M, as allowed, go into the General Fund and some other expenses.

Last year I brought back a new legal model that allows more into the General Fund. That should be ratified by the State Legislature the next session.

I am looking to do some changes that will allow us to get better use of the funding. But that will take some time and legal research to get it enacted since those requirements and permissions are set by the State.

In actuality the funding is down due to the economy. When it improves the amounts will increase as stays increase.

There is one for each Post, we certainly need some change and because all these ladies are running there will be a huge female turnout and they will mostly vote as I will - for an all-ladies team.

Not sure Cyndi will make it all the way, but she could get into the inevitable runoff with Haddix for mayor. Although he's getting real tiresome with his know it all college professor approach. Maybe Rowland will look young and fresh next to him. We'll see on Oct. 6.

Of course there will only be 100 voters there - and less than half of them will be undecided, so it gets back to how The Citizen and the other paper covers the event. And Cal, please, I'm begging here - Please do not tell us who you favor or who you think we should vote for. Please pass this year. Yes, sometimes you are right, but when you do that many people vote the opposite way and that doesn't help.

If this is the case I hope he favors Ms Cyndi, that way she'll be out on her proverbiale A-- where she belongs.
By the by Mudcat why wasn't you better half pictured with all of the past Mayors?

You are incorrect about females always voting for females! Has little to do with it, thank goodness.

Always is probably an exaggeration, but I'll go with mostly, frequently, often, etc. - especially this time with this election. Wait and see.
