Library gets big donation

Due to a generous donation from James and Kim Wingo, the Peachtree City Library has obtained a number of volumes on Marquis de LaFayette, and on the American Revolution. It was established in memory of James’ parents, Marvin and Della Wingo.

Lower Fayetteville Road work to begin in July

At long last, some traffic relief is coming to one of eastern Coweta County’s busiest roads.

County Public Information Officer Patricia Palmer confirmed the work to add two feet to each side of the road will begin in mid-July. Bridges will also be replaced on the road and the $6 million project is being funded by the county’s agreement with the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority.

750 students await results

Retesting was completed this work for more than 750 students who didn’t meet expectations on the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT) that were given to students this spring. If the students don’t meet expectations, they won’t advance to the next grade this fall.

PTC makes burglary arrests

Two Peachtree City teens have been arrested for breaking into six businesses at the Wilshire Pavilion shopping center early Thursday morning, police said.

Fire damages PTC home

A late-night fire Saturday damaged a home in Peachtree City, also killing three family pets, fire officials said.

The fire at 223 Cedar Drive started in the garage area, but firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading throughout the home, said Assistant Fire Marshal David Williamson. When firefighters first arrived, flames were visible from the garage, Williamson said.

Coweta County officials were jubilant this week when China-based Lehui Enterprises, a manufacturer of food and beverage processing equipment, and W.Y. Industries, a leading U.S. manufacturer of food and beverage packing products, to enter into a joint venture agreement that will create 200 jobs within two years in the Newnan, Ga. area. The new company, named Kingwasong LLC, will manufacture, process and package a variety of condiments, including soy sauce, in an existing facility in Newnan. The facility is expected to attract $12 million to $15 million in new investment to the area, read a press release announcing the action.
