Due to a generous donation from James and Kim Wingo, the Peachtree City Library has obtained a number of volumes on Marquis de LaFayette, and on the American Revolution. It was established in memory of James’ parents, Marvin and Della Wingo.

“I have always admired LaFayette,” said Wingo. “Even though he was French, he came to this country with his own money, men, and supplies to help Gen. George Washington obtain a democracy. And I’m proud to live in a county that was named for him.”

Taking part in the event was the Marquis de Lafayette Chapter Sons of the American Revolution, who presented a color guard and musket firing in Picnic Park.

Inside the library, local storyteller, Peter Bonner, entertained children and adults with authentic costumes from early American life. The children tried them on, and got to hold a replica of a musket.

Bonner told a number of true stories about various people who lived in the late 1700s and in their own quiet way, also helped to found a democracy.

A special reading incentive was announced for the youth; if they read three books from the new collection, they will receive a certificate and a patriotic wrist band.

Refreshments were provided by the General Daniel Newnan Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
