Peachtree City police are offering a $5,000 reward for information about a bizarre burglary that occurred early Thursday morning at the Wilshire Pavilion shopping center.

Six businesses were severely damaged a little after midnight and the suspect or suspects had turned the power off to the entire strip of stores, police said. One of the businesses had a backup generator that allowed the alarm to activate, sending a message to the county 911 center, police said.

The extent of the damage was characterized by police as "extremely unusual and needless in nature." Items were taken from five of the six businesses, police said. The incident occurred at approximately 12:37 a.m.

The reward will be issued to any persoon who provides information to authorities that leads to the arrest and conviction of all persons responsible for the crime. Anyone with information can contact the police department at 770-631-2510. Callers may remain anonymous.

We need more police officers!!!!. We are already Peachdale due to the Lenox Walmart and Lenox apartments and cluster homes. Yes no doubt it is our local teenage worthless waste-of-the-clean-air-the-rest-of-us-need-to-breath!! These kids and their parents need to go away. They really do not maintain their homes very well anyway; lets lose them.!!! Wake up people we have a bunch of careless worthless parents here, and unless we chase them or pressure them out of our city, it is only going to get worse. If your neighbors have teenage boys it will lower your property value, because they are so DESTRUCTIVE!!!!!! Let's pressure these kind of people back to the trailer parks where they fit in.!!!

I just want you to know that you sound so stupid. If you don't want to deal with crime (not that there is much here) I suggest that you move to a small town in Nebraska or somewhere like that where you won't have to deal with people. If you live in a city where there are people there will be crime. You can't just run everyone off that you don't like. There are teenagers everywhere and they are not a waste of air. You just sound so ignorant.

So let me see if I got this right..... teenage crime is the norm, and we should just accept it? Which middle school are you in?

Two of my immediate---black---neigbors have boys in their teens, and I have no idea what you are talking about. I've been here for nine years and these families were here before me, so I've known them, if casually, since they were in grade school. They have always been friendly and respectful. They've asked to fish in my pond and even borrow my boat, and, with their parents' permission, I've allowed them. So far as I can tell, they're just good kids.

Sounds like you've had an entirely different sort of experience, but the generalization fails.

Why haven't you arrested them? Citizens arrest is your friend.

Sorry, but I feel you're going a little bit overboard with your comments. What do you suggest, we torch their houses?

Sheesh, this is still the US of A last time I checked, as long as other people's choices do not directly impact your freedoms you need to take a chill pill.

I do agree that we should give the PTC PD enough funds to stand on equal footing with similar size towns, though. Seems we are pinching dollars in the wrong places.

If we had the right number of police officers for a city this size, we could maybe crack down on the crime. Eventually these kind of people would move on.

Great comments Dana as you have hit the nail right on the head. I have only lived here 3 years but we get a great bargin with both fire and police. I did read that the police department is under funded by 39% when it is compared to other cities our size in Georgia. That is 39% underfunded. The fire department is under funded by about 14%. I for one never want to give this city up to crime because if we ever do you can kiss property values and schools good by. I have lived in other cities when this has happened and when it comes PTC we will be known as Peachdale.

I have been reading the articles on this web page and I see where a councilperson wanted to cut the 3 police officers out of the budget this year also. Does that person live under a rock or maybe they are Highgreen.

I have seen the Chief speak many times and he always warns about crime moving into our city. In an article last year he even said he does not have the man power to patrol the cart paths. I for one am willing to pay 200 dollars more a year in property tax to make sure me and my family are safe. Just look at the crime in the last couple of weeks. The police do a great job catching the criminals but we need to be putting our efforts toward prevention with more police officers.

As for the City Manager, well he was just arrested by the police department for DUI. Do you really think he is going to give them anything unless he is forced to. He is also supported by council in that event so I guess he will do what ever they wish.

I am sure the police will arrest these peope in a week or so, and they will be local kids out of control and we will continue to wait for the next killing, shooting or robbery. Let's just hope it is not one of our family that is the victim.

Is it just me, or is crime taking a drastic turn skyward here in PTC? People are driving much more aggressively and speeding through neighborhoods, teens are out way past curfew, there's been a shooting, cars broken into in local business parking areas and now businesses being broken into. I hope to see our Police Department patrolling and strictly enforcing the laws so we can all get back to enjoying the town we moved here for.

Keep in mind that the PTC Police Department is staffed well under national averages. Chief Murray has been asking for more officers and City Manager Bernie McMullan has been consistently not approving expenditures.

It is my belief that we are seeing the beginning of a trend with higher crime. I believe that we should approve the additional officers and support the Police Department so that they can keep crime as low as possible. Waiting until the criminals are here and in control makes it too late.

One of our beloved features, the cart trails, will certainly be enticing to some of the criminals and having more officers would allow a higher presence on the trails.

It is the city council. Get one or more of them focused on the problem and Bernie will change sides.

Judi is the best bet. Get her understanding how crime works. Cyndi can be converted as well.

But Council's objection to this would be that it is Bernie's job to present them the budget. Yes, they can; and probably should be giving input, but since the Department Heads reported to Bernie, the council is "screened" from their budget requests.

If our police department doesn't meet national standards and we have all seen the writing on the wall, then now would be the time to increase Public Safety and give both Chief's Murray and Lohr what they need.

We don't have to go overboard, but at least get to acceptable standards.

Despite people like Highgreen's tirades against the PTC Police Department, I for one feel that we get a great value for our money. I would just like to know that our future is going to be as well protected as our past.

Chief Lohr and his staff do a wonderful job despite being considerably short staffed. Give them the manpower to do what needs to be done.

If Bernie does not present it in budget then the Council is probably not going to consider it.

Now we are getting back into issues of the last election. Does the Mayor and Council base day to day on the Manager, thus being truly only part-time. Or, do they do their own research and get out their and commit the 'sins' Brown was condemned for?

If we need them we need them.

Not an item to skimp on.
