The tragic shooting death that claimed the life of Peachtree City teen Dallas Crenshaw has sparked a fury of comments in the online community at www.TheCitizen.com. Crenshaw’s aunt responds to some of the criticism in the following letter to the editor:
Dear Editor,
I have tried to respond to some of the comments made against my nephew. He was killed this week, Tuesday June 20, 2006 to be exact. He cannot come back to explain his reason for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. His PARENTS as well as the rest of our FAMILY are trying to heal. No matter how hard you try you cannot keep watch over your children 24 hours a day. My brother and his wife did everything with their children, including teaching them right from wrong. No matter how many times you instill the right things in them, they are the ones in control when you are not around (at work or asleep). This was a deadly mistake that was made on Dallas's part by attending the party. I'm not saying he should have gone to that party, but the bottom line is that he didn't shoot anyone, he lost his life. For all of those that want to judge, look in your own backyards! You might just remember something you or your child did that might be remembered as a mistake. In your case, you are still able to talk to and hug your child. We now have memories. Dallas was a human being and no one deserves to die like this! I wish to thank all those that are praying for our family. I pray that NOTHING like this happens to you, or someone as dear to your heart as Dallas was to ours!
Humbly Submitted,
Cheryl Dabbs
