Dust off those poodle skirts, grab your pink bubble gum, and get into the swing of things for the annual Coweta-Fayette EMC and Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce Bowling Adventure on August 27 from 1:30 - 5:00 p.m. at Junction Lanes.  Members and non-members are invited to participate in this 50’s style event which features a “Rockin’ Around the Lane” theme.  Annually people come from all over Coweta County to participate in this afternoon of friendly competition, networking, and team building.

Seven Peachtree City businesses were cited by police for alcohol violations after an undercover sting last week.

She’s Bistro, Gezzo’s Surf and Grill, Grinds and Wines, Chili’s, Kane Yama and Peachtree Bottle Shop were cited for furnishing alcohol to a person under 21, police said. Gezzo’s was also charged with selling alcohol without a permit and allowing an employee to serve alcohol without a permit, police said.

The Fayetteville City Council on Thursday will take up the issue of a proposed false alarm ordinance that is intended to reduce police costs and maximize personnel resources, according to a letter from Chief Steve Heaton. Data compiled over a three-month period by the Fayette County 911 Center showed that 81 percent of alarm calls were false alarms, Heaton said.

On Friday, July 31, Fletcher faced off against the other Miss Teen USA qualifiers in a pageant at Atlantis, Paradise Island in The Bahamas. Fletcher placed first-runner up in the contest.

F'ville considers lowering fine on business tax

The Fayetteville City Council on Thursday is expected to vote on an amendment to the Occupational Tax Ordinance that would lower the fine imposed when the business tax is not paid. The current fine for failure to pay is $1,000. The change, which mirrors the recent move by the State of Georgia, would set the fine at $500.

It’s back to the drawing board for PTC sign controversy

It is hard to miss the increasing number of people holding or wearing various types of signs advertising businesses in Peachtree City, and other locations around Fayette County, since the beginning of the year. To address that concern, Peachtree City Council and Planning Commission held a joint meeting Thursday to address walking signs and hand-held signage. Though no vote was taken, the meeting ended with the consensus that the signs should be regulated rather than banned and that the city staff and attorney should review the approaches used by other cities and report back.
