Four teenagers were arrested Monday night in Fayetteville after an egg-throwing incident in which a 4-year-old in a passing car was struck.

Three underage teenagers and 17-year-old Nils Schattne, all Fayetteville residents, were charged with simple battery, obstruction and criminal trespass less than $500, according to Fayetteville Police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw. Schattne was also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, Crawshaw said.

The incident took place between 10 p.m. and just after midnight, Crawshaw said. An officer patrolling the Beauregard Avenue area saw a vehicle parked in the turn lane at Grady Avenue and Ga. Highway 85. He stopped to inquire and was told by the occupants that they thought they heard a shot and had stopped to examine the vehicle. They found that it was an egg that had hit the vehicle, Crawshaw said.

The officer in surveying the area saw another vehicle parked nearby. Speaking with the occupants, he was told that an egg had been thrown through an open window, striking a 4-year-old passenger, Crawshaw said. The officer also found broken eggs on the roadway, Crawshaw added.

Continuing to survey the area, the officer found the four teenagers in the proximity of a garage in a nearby subdivision near Beauregard and Grady. Inquiring about the egg-throwing, the group initially denied any knowledge but later admitted to having thrown them.
