Local law enforcement agencies Tuesday night will take part in a national anti-crime initiative called “National Night Out.”

The two events in Fayette will take place at the Target store in Peachtree City and the Target store in Fayetteville. Both events will last from 6-8 p.m.
Peachtree City and Tyrone police will be on hand at the Peachtree City Target with information on traffic safety, personal safety, the Community Emergency Response Team program and other topics.

Simultaneously, Fayetteville police and Fayette County sheriff’s deputies will be at the Fayetteville Target store with crime prevention and safety-related materials available. They also plan to provide fingerprinting and identification kits for young children.

Fayetteville’s event also will feature a number of patrol cars, the sheriff’s department’s “Hawk 1” helicopter, and various other vehicles including fire trucks.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are aware.
