A proposal to ban businesses from taking to Peachtree City’s roadsides with employees holding promotional signs met with resistance from the city’s Planning Commission Monday night.

Despite the sluggish economy, Piedmont Fayette Hospital is pushing forward with its “comprehensive cancer center” plans, which will bring a host of cancer services in one area including radiation treatment, a first for Fayette County.

A house off Harp Road south of Fayetteville was heavily damaged after it caught fire early Monday morning with no one home — the result of an apparent lightning strike, fire officials said.

Farewell reception Friday for adopted ‘alumni’ pets

Friday afternoon Fayette County Animal Control Director Miguel Abi-hassan is hoping to say goodbye to many of the animal shelter’s adopted alumni as he also says goodbye to the community.

They decided to enlist the assistance of motorcycle riders in the Bikers for BaZooms fundraiser that will be held Aug. 29. The event will benefit the Susan G. Komen for The Cure Foundation that helps raise funding dollars for breast cancer research.

Former attorney Steven H. Ballard, 53, of McDonough pled guilty today in federal district court to defrauding over a dozen victims in Georgia, Florida and Tennessee in a real estate investment scam, federal officials said.

A Palmetto man was arrested on drug charges July 2 after more than a dozen Crime Suppression Unit officers from Palmetto Police and Coweta County Sheriff’s Office converged on a residence off Carlton Road.

Arrested at his home at 525 Seven Bark Court was 25 year-old Ramaro Thornton, according to Palmetto Crime Scene Investigator Joyce Phillips.

The Senoia City Council Monday night unanimously approved the purchase of two pre-owned vehicles for the Police Department. The purchase and outfitting price for the two 2008 Dodge Chargers is $41,723.

Susan Luciano, teacher at Arnall Middle School, recently completed a four-day coastal ecology workshop on Georgia’s Sapelo Island. The Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve (SINERR) offered the training as part of its teacher training series. Participants in the training investigated Georgia’s coastal systems with an emphasis on estuarine and marine ecology, coastal species identification and adaptations, commercial and recreational fisheries and management.
