Daniel Richard Hayes accused of failure to notify clients in auto crash case

An attorney who previously practiced in Fayette County has been disbarred from the profession by the Georgia Supreme Court.

Daniel Richard Hayes, who formerly had an office in Peachtree City, was disbarred in an order from the court dated May 18. In the order, the court announced its ruling was based on Hayes’ “improper handling” of a personal injury lawsuit.

The court’s order noted that Hayes was retained by two people following an automobile accident. The suit, filed against the car owner, the car driver and the owner’s insurance company, was ultimately dismissed although Hayes failed to notify his clients of that fact, according to the court order.

Also, Hayes failed to inform his clients that the insurance company was awarded attorney’s fees, a fact they learned of upon retrieving their file from the courthouse, the order stated.

Hayes did not file a timely answer to the complaint issued by the Georgia Bar Association, the order noted.

The court’s order also noted that Hayes apparently has abandoned his law practice.
