Zackery S. Lamb has graduated from basic military training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., under the Split Option Training Program. Each of us has a favorite teacher from our childhood and memories of lessons that shaped us into the adults we are today. My favorite teacher is my dance teacher, Madame Velta Cernonok. Local poet honored at conventionKathy Doan of Peachtree City recently attended the International Society of Poets annual convention where she was named one of the top ten young poets. Doan, who is 15 and a student at McIntosh High School, is the daughter of Judy Doan, owner of Judy’s Nails in Peachtree City. Doan entered the poetry competition in the fall of 2005 and, along with approximately 2,700 semifinalists, attended the covention at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada this July with her mother and sister by her side. PTC Optimist Club raises funds for youthThe Peachtree City Optimist Club held its 17th annual golf tournament on Monday, September 11 at Planterra Ridge Golf Center. Ninety-two golfers “teed off” to help the Optimist Club raise $9,100 for the youth of Peachtree City and Fayette County. All funds raised will be used for the many projects and events that the club presents each year to make the community a better place to live. Notables• Air Force Airman Jeremey C. Owens has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Manchester Who’s Who is committed to providing professional networking services and recognizing the achievements of executives and professionals worldwide. shurman comes homeMcIntosh grads and their band play first show in PTC since high school It has been a while since Mcintosh High School graduates Aaron Beavers and Damon Allen, members of the band shurman, performed music in Peachtree City. “I think the last concert we played was at a canned food drive at the school,” said Beavers. “Maybe it was at a party at someone’s house.” The wait will be over next week, when Beavers and Allen bring their band, shurman, to The Red Room, Thursday, Oct. 5. The band, which found success with their first album, Jubilee, and touring nearly non-stop around the country, recently released a live album and has toured their way from Los Angeles to Nashville, Tenn. for a music conference and to record a new album at the legendary 16 Tons Studios. Army captain returns from IraqArmy Captain returned to Fort Hood, Texas, from Iraq, on Labor Day. Weyer was among approximately 150 soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division, the first wave of about 21,000 who will return in the coming months.
