Local poet honored at convention

Kathy Doan of Peachtree City recently attended the International Society of Poets annual convention where she was named one of the top ten young poets. Doan, who is 15 and a student at McIntosh High School, is the daughter of Judy Doan, owner of Judy’s Nails in Peachtree City.

Doan entered the poetry competition in the fall of 2005 and, along with approximately 2,700 semifinalists, attended the covention at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada this July with her mother and sister by her side.

As one of the top ten young poets, Doan read her poem “Close Your Eyes” at the final awards ceremony in front of all 2,700 attendees.

American Idol winner Reuben Studdard along with Tony Orlando were the guest celebrities at this year’s event and Doan was thrilled to meet them both.
