• Army Reserve Pfc. Zackery S. Lamb has graduated from basic military training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., under the Split Option Training Program. The program allows high school students between their junior and senior year to attend and complete the Army National Guard or Reserve six-week basic training program during the summer of their junior year.

During basic training, the recruit receives instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, values and tradition. The student attends weekend drills during the senior year of high school until graduation. After graduating from high school, the recruit serves as a member of the national guard or reserve and attends advanced individual training (AIT) to acquire job skills necessary in a military career specialty.

He is the son of Netty Bennett and nephew of Karen Polston both of Union City, Ga. Lamb is a student at Creekside High School, Fairburn, Ga.

Will Halicks was named to the dean's list for both the fall and spring semesters of his freshman year at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he is now a junior. Halicks is a 2005 graduate of McIntosh High School and is the son of Richard and Debbie Halicks of Peachtree City. He plans to major in English and creative writing.

• Army Pvt. Savannah C. Bowman has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

She is the daughter of Tony and Kandy Bowman of Brooks, Ga. and a 2005 graduate of Fayette County High School, Fayetteville, Ga.
