De Leo, Liptak receive theology degrees
Two local students were graduated from St. Michael’s Seminary recently in the Charismatic Episcopal Church’s Diocese of the Mid-South. Jereme De Leo of Newnan received a licentiate of theology and Joseph Liptak of Fayetteville received the master of ministry degree. The ceremony was held on Saturday evening, Oct. 10. at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Sharpsburg.

F’ville Council looks at budget measures

The Fayetteville City Council at its Oct. 15 meeting will hear the first reading of the final amendment to the 2009 budget. Essentially a housekeeping issue, the amendment will address the General Fund, Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) and Vehicle Rental Excise Tax Fund budgets.

St. Mary Magdalene celebrate’s 10th anniversary

Nearly 1,000 people sprawled over the grounds of Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church for the 10th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, Sept. 27.

It was the actual date of the founding of the “Sharpsburg Mission” which celebrated its first Mass in Thomas Crossroads Elementary School 10 years ago with some 68 people attending.

Last Grantville gospel concert for 2009 set for Oct. 24 at Old Depot

The last Grantville Depot Gospel Sing for 2009 will be held Saturday, Oct. 24 beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is free, refreshments will be available, the atmosphere will be casual, and there will be opportunities provided to meet the singers.

Prince of Peace offers family fun this Friday
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church will present Fall Family Night & Flick on the Bricks this Friday, Oct. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the church. The movie, “Night at the Museum” staring Ben Stiller, starts at sunset. All children, youth and families are invited. Kids and youth are encouraged to wear costumes (nothing too scary please). Snacks and drinks will be provided. Those attending should bring lawn chairs, blankets and jackets. Rain backup will be in the Life Center with more fun for kids. Prince of Peace is on Ga. Highway 314 between Lowe’s and The Pavilion.

All Saints, PTCUMC strike deal for church lease, purchase

All Saints, PTCUMC

All Saints Anglican Church (ASAC) of Peachtree City has moved into “new digs” at Peachtree Parkway and Windgate Road, after signing a lease agreement with Peachtree City United Methodist Church (PTCUMC).

ASAC leaders have outlined plans to eventually buy the property. The building that is now the PTCUMC youth center is expected to be shared by the two churches until PTCUMC moves its youth and children’s ministries to its main location on Robinson Road.

Several area churches are planning special “blessings” for animals within the next couple of weeks in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals.

FFUMC’s Christmas Tour of Homes planned for Dec. 5 & 6

The Fayetteville First United Methodist Church will once again sponsor its annual Christmas Tour of Homes, this year planned for Saturday and Sunday Dec. 5 and 6, from 1 – 5 p.m. each day. Six homes have been selected for the tour, and include restored historic dwellings, an ecologically friendly home, and the home of an interior designer.

Reading workshop for parents planned
St. Andrew’s in the Pines Episcopal Dayschool will host a reading workshop for parents Friday, Oct. 2, from 11 a.m. until noon. A Fayette County reading specialist will teach parents techniques and tricks to help their child learn to read. The cost of the workshop is $5 and childcare is provided. Fall festival, 5K run start Saturday a.m.

North Fayette United Methodist Church’s third annual “Find Your Way” 5K run and Fall Festival are set for this Saturday, Sept. 26, at 8 a.m., at 847 New Hope Road, Fayetteville. Supervised jump and play activities for the children will be offered, and barbecue chicken plates will be on sale after the 5K run.
