Michael Boylan: Thoughts on MunsonLarry Munson, legendary voice of the Georgia Bulldogs, is scaling back his workload this year and Eric Zeier will be working with Scott Howard on UGA road games this year. Michael Boylan: Can Smoltzie stop the bleeding? The D-Backs are crushing the Braves so far and every loss is hurting in the standings. Will John Smoltz win today and he Michael Boylan: What's on your sports radar this weekend?Falcons @ Bills tonight? Braves and the D-Backs? The Little League World Series? The 3M Performance 400? I may watch a little of the Falcons game to see Sandy Creek alum Riley Swanson. Michael Boylan: The greatest Falcon of all timeI got to Georgia when it was still Glanville's team and Prime Time was making noise, so I can't comment on players like Tommy Nobis, Billy "White Shoes" Johnson, etc., but I'm sure the bloggers out there have a better idea of the history of this franchise and can make this an interesting discussion. Michael Boylan: Working outThere's a ton of gyms in the area - more than ever from the looks of it - and plenty of recreation opportunities. Do you have a class, routine or sport you take part in regularly that keeps you in shape - or at least feeling good? Michael Boylan: High school sports stories this fall outside of footballThe other day I asked about who the biggest surprise team would be in local high school football. What about the other fall sports? They get started in a few weeks, so say it here first. Michael Boylan: How's your favorite college team going to do this year?It seems like everybody down here has an allegiance to a college football team, so how's your team going to fare? Will Tech contend for an ACC title without Calvin? Michael Boylan: Who will it be?Which Braves pitcher, if any, is most likely to give up Barry Bonds' historic home run this week? Michael Boylan: Indicative of a problemI stopped at Dunkin Donuts this morning for a cup of coffee and noticed on my way out that there were five people in the drive-thru line (four of which were SUVs incidentally) yet there was no line inside the store. I guess people would rather let their cars run in idle for 5-7 minutes while they wait for their turn at the window, then get out of their cars and get their order filled in a minute or less. Michael Boylan: Biggest high school football surprise this year? The first football jamboree/scrimmage is a little over a month away, so let's start talking high school football. Which local team will be the biggest surprise this year? Michael Boylan: Rub the lampA genie will allow you to bring back a former Atlanta Brave (in his prime) for the second half of this season. Who do you choose? Do I hear any votes for Jeff Blauser? Michael Boylan: Who wins the Home Run Derby tonight?Michael Boylan: All-Star omissionsDo you think anyone is missing from the 2007 All-Star team? Who would you put on? I'm saying Dice-K. The man has Michael Boylan: Baseball in its purest formTook a trip up to Greenville, SC yesterday to see the West Virginia Power (featuring Sandy Creek graduate Brent Brewer) take on the Greenville Drive (a Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox). Michael Boylan: Bombing threat bumps Thompson's MSNBC appearanceThe terrorists win again. John Thompson's appearance on MSNBC this morning was cancelled because of the headlines coming out of London. Michael Boylan: The Citizen on MSNBCJohn Thompson will be speaking on MSNBC at 9 a.m. and possibly 10 a.m. on Friday about the Benoit case and the impact on the local level. Michael Boylan: The ultimate baseball debateDesignated hitter or no designated hitter? That is the question. Whether 'tis nobler to have someone who can actually hit a ball in the nine spot or to place arms in harms way, and end innings with strikeouts; to die and swing no more (until a few innings later at least). Michael Boylan: Your thoughts on fighting sports - lots of questionsSouthside Slugfest II is at The Fred tomorrow night and lots of people have made their feelings known about mixed martial arts, a.k.a. ultimate fighting, but what about boxing and wrestling (the real stuff not WWE, etc.)? Michael Boylan: Home field advantageNot that I mind when Turner Field turns into Fenway South (though it didn't help much last night), but I have been to other Braves games where the out of town fans take over (Cubs, Mets, etc.) Michael Boylan: Off to the races?Atlanta Motor Speedway and Senoia Speedway both have summer racing series for amateur, semi-pro and pro drivers. Have you ever been to either of these venues for summer events? Michael Boylan: Best Baseball MovieThere are plenty of nominees for this topic, but give it some thought. Which baseball movie truly stands the test of time for you? Do you prefer comedy or drama? Michael Boylan: Fade to black - thoughts on the finale of The Sopranos (spoiler alert)If you Tivo'ed this last night and haven't watched the finale yet - stop reading right now. The show ended with an abrupt cut to black. Michael Boylan: VIDEO A day at DixieLand
Kevin and I got a chance to check out the new roller coaster at DixieLand Fun Park yesterday (story next week - but just so you know, it's really fun).
Michael Boylan: Greatest game you have ever attendedCurt Schilling missed a no-hitter by one out last night. Has anyone out there ever seen - in person - a no-hitter? What was the greatest sports feat/ game you have ever seen in person? Michael Boylan: Is Donovan making the right move?Billy Donovan's stint with the Orlando Magic is nearing its end - and it had hardly even begun. Is he making the right move going back to the University of Florida? Michael Boylan: Any interest in the NBA finals?Until the last two minutes of Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals, I hadn't watched any NBA this year. My eye caught the close score in the final 1:30 of game 4 though and I clicked over. Although I still couldn't bring myself to watch an entire game for Game 5 or 6, I did watch more of each of those games (usually right around the end). It was great to see LeBron James come into his own and I have to admit my interest in the NBA finals is a little piqued. Michael Boylan: Should there be playoffs in college football?Bernie Machen, the President of the University of Florida, is campaigning for a playoff system for college football. Sho Michael Boylan: Are the Braves done?I know that it isn't even June yet, but doesn't it look like the Mets are pulling away - much like they did last year - while the Braves are in a state of disarray? Chipper on the DL, Smoltz hurt, Gonzalez gone for the year and Andruw striking out like Andruw of old. Michael Boylan: VIDEO: Bagpipe player
If you've been to a McIntosh lacrosse game this year, chances are you've seen this guy - Brian Forsyth - and his bagpipes.
Michael Boylan: Watch several of McIntosh's goals against Harrison's lacrosse team
The Chiefs defeated the sixth ranked Harrison Hoyas on Wednesday night. Watch the goals and hear Coach Mike Meutzel talk about the win.
