Is Donovan making the right move?

Michael Boylan's picture

Billy Donovan's stint with the Orlando Magic is nearing its end - and it had hardly even begun. Is he making the right move going back to the University of Florida?

My two cents: Orlando was a good gig with a solid base of players and a chance to add some good pieces in the draft. The East is open for a team to play well, make the playoffs and possibly go deep. Orlando could have definitely made the playoffs again next year and then who know how far Donovan could have taken them. At Florida next year, the Gators will contend for the SEC title, make the tournament and not come close to winning it all.

We know you're trying to "lighten things up" on the Citizen. But you have to understand that this audience is not brain dead enough to be an NBA fan. The only thing the NBA is good for is keeping a bunch of thugs off our streets for a period of time.

Give us some Final Four and we'll talk. Smiling

Even though I'm a Dawg fan and can't understand Gator culture, I know there are plenty of people in the area who have to have an opinion - one way or the other - on Billy Donovan.

Kevin and I have been charged with coming up with sports topics to get discussions going on the web site (beats railing against Hillary, W, Jimmy Carter and Logsdon for the umpteenth time) and I thought this was the most newsworthy sports topic at the moment.

Can't blame you hating on the NBA - not a big fan myself - but there are thugs in every sport at every level - always have been and always will be. You can either choose to turn the TV off and not watch, point your finger at the negative aspects and boo when and if you pay your money, or accentuate the positive and try to get the most out of the sports experience.

Thanks for weighing in though and hopefully we'll open up more discourse to more bloggers with our wider variety of topics.

You left out railing against Cheney and Bush for the umpteenth time. Smiling But at least I learned how to spell a new word. Umpteenth.

You are dead on stating that Michael. The NBA is the definite winner although it seems the NFL is on an aggressive pace to capture the coveted "thug" title. I suppose we don't watch sports in an effort to find people to look up to. Oops.. people do that don't they? Shocked Take for instance Atlanta's very own superhero Chipper Jones. If that guy couldn't smack a ball and play a mean third base his new position would be that as a director on the back of a garbage truck. "Moan back... moan back".... I think you get my drift.

Michael, how about this one for a subject. Start a new blog and let's hear everybody's ballpark experiences. Like the one last year at Fenway Park when I got to see David "Pappy" Ortiz hit his record breaking........

Best ballpark experience is a great idea for a topic.

Glad you had a good time at Fenway last year.

I sat about 10 seats down from Pesky Pole last year and saw the Sox pound the Nats.

I bleed Braves Blue. However, with that said I love the Cubs and Wrigley field. I've been there once. It won't be my last. With I can't wait to see the Braves pound them in person this Friday night. See ya at the 755 club!

In regards to the Red Sox Nation... If you hate the Yankees you've got to love the Sox. Yup! What a baseball experience. In spite of the fact that I hate the Yankees you can't beat a Nathan's Hot dog sitting on the aisle (20 rows up) behind the plate. But, I suppose that if I were a real baseball fan I'd sit out in right field with the locals. Then again I'd be risking my life cause I ain't from around there and I surely wouldn't be wearing a "Y" on my hat.

BTW... I wasn't man enough to wear my Red Sox cap in New York.
