Are the Braves done?

Michael Boylan's picture

I know that it isn't even June yet, but doesn't it look like the Mets are pulling away - much like they did last year - while the Braves are in a state of disarray? Chipper on the DL, Smoltz hurt, Gonzalez gone for the year and Andruw striking out like Andruw of old.

Should we be worried? Is this team resilient enough to comeback? What does this team need to stay in and possibly win the race?

Good pitching can get you a 55% winning season, good enough for first or second in division, but not for the league championship or world series.
Good hitting is what Braves do not have. They can only hit certain pitchers, about half of them, and hit like girls against the best pitchers.
Andruw? Tries to knock the wall down every swing--occasionally he will get a single or double by hitting it off center--providing he doesn't strike out. Good for ticket sales, but two thirds of his hits provide runs that are not game winners.
Second baseman is the most reliable hitter they have, then McCann. Rest---whenever they get an easy pitcher.
Need a couple of hitters, and now another 30 game starter with a 3.0.

Ordinarily I would ignore such a bland statement, but I have NO idea what this one says! (spellin/typing?) You must have entered it in the incorrect place.

I don't know what the Braves need, but I know you sure could use spell-check.
