I'll try not to sound too much like a broken record on this subject, but it's important.

I write this column in some psychological sense, in that I have reached closure on being officially, "on a diet." Up until this past summer I had never heard of the Atkin's Diet, or Zone Diet, or what some call the "Eat More and Worse than You Ever Have in Your Life and Lose Weight" Diet.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Anthrax is our part of war, so let's 'get a grip'

The recent anthrax scare has many Americans fearing for their lives. Some citizens are so worried that they can hardly function.

Brown a man of vision, integrity and character

A couple of years ago, I began reading some intriguing letters in the newspaper regarding community issues that were written by someone named Steve Brown. At the time, I thought that the letter writer was well-informed, articulate, progressive, and courageous. I recall remarking to my wife, "If this Brown guy is really as sharp as he seems to be, he would make a great mayor for Peachtree City."

"I will be a uniter, not a divider, and I will listen'

Let me begin by expressing my personal appreciation to all of the people associated with The Citizen newspapers for providing the candidates a forum to express their views and vision for the future of Peachtree City.

Murphy has served city as 'strong, gifted leader'

I an writing this letter in support of Frank Murphy for mayor.

Rower is 'solutions oriented high achiever'

My name is Frederick Brown, Jr. and I served Peachtree City for 13 years as mayor (10 years) and council member (3 years). During my tenure we were part of a grand plan that made Peachtree City the unique place it is today. Recently, I was honored by Gary Rower who requested that I serve as the honorary chairperson of his campaign for mayor of Peachtree City.

Youngest candidate 'represents PTC's future'

As proven by Alexander the Great when he conquered the world as he knew it before the age of 30, age does not have to be a hindrance. In fact, a fresh and unjaded point of view may be just what local government needs right now.

Decisions were made to comply with the law

There seems to be confusion throughout the community over developer impact fees and how they are affecting the budget of Peachtree City.

'Time to elect one with open mind, eager ears'

One of my goals in this election was to shed some light on how important open government issues are in our daily lives. It is a right you should demand and allow no concession because it affects every single issue that our community faces. It is the only avenue we have to hold our elected officials and administration accountable for their actions.

Weed has ability to work with opponents

I am writing in support of Murray Weed, a candidate for the city council of Peachtree City. Having worked with Murray on various Rotary projects, I can say that I know Murray well. I can also say that he has the skills and experience needed to make an effective council person.

'Support responsive, less intrusive government'

The events of Sept. 11 altered the way I had planned to run my campaign for Fayetteville City Council. I decided not to actively seek any contributions and to extremely limit the funds I would spend on this election. I felt if anyone wished to contribute, their money would and could be better spent elsewhere.

White upholds standards for developers, builders

Remember, there is a city election in Fayetteville, Nov. 6. Only the Post 3 City Council seat currently held by Walt White is contested. In these challenging times where growth, traffic and security are major concerns, we need experienced, conservative leadership. I am supporting Councilman White in this very important race.

Volunteer firefighters don't endorse PTC candidates

Today I had a friend tell me that he had heard one of our parents from Fayette County Youth Baseball Association call and leave his grief on a phone line set up at a local radio station. This parent from our community phoned in to air his grief against my son's coach. This comment was inappropriate and uncalled for. This comment was played on a local radio station here in Atlanta. Several friends have told me they heard it.

Armed with information, supports Brown, Rapson

I feel good! For the first time in my life I am going to the polls feeling powerful. Yes, after many years of telling myself that I really should know more than I did before stepping into the voting booth, this year I can claim that I am powerful with knowledge.

Brown, Rapson, Weed: They've done homework

Nov. 6 is a huge day in the history of Peachtree City. It will be a chance for the citizens to regain control. It is voting day.

Several better than...Guess who?

It's no secret that soon the City of Peachtree will be facing build out. That's when all the impact fees and other tax add-ons will stop. And since Peachtree City has been living high on the hog all these years, it will be hard to apply the brakes quickly. Let's look to the future.

Cities vs. county on jail impact fees: Dispute wasting taxpayers' money

Chutzpa has been described as killing both your parents and asking the court for mercy because you are an orphan. I wonder if we shouldn't consider giving our city governments, here in Fayette County, an award for chutzpa.

Don't send food to Afghans

In light of the recent bombings on Afghanistan, the Starr's Mill High School staff has asked students to donate $1 to help feed the children of Afghanistan. The school wants to send a $1,700 check ($1 for each student at SMHS) to Washington, D.C., to be used to help pay for food to be sent to the children of Afghanistan. As a student at SMHS and a citizen of the United States, I refuse to contribute to such a fund.
